Salary and Benefits

Base salary ranges from $101,122 to $160,983, plus leave loading and employer's contribution to superannuation. Other benefits include school holiday leave, travel allowances, a Fitness Passport programme and indemnity insurance coverage for psychologists.

Overview

School counsellors are an essential part of the department’s School Counselling Service. They provide counselling and psychological assessment to students, complementing the work of teachers, strengthening learning and wellbeing outcomes, and helping families manage their children’s learning and mental health needs. The role offers opportunities for professional development and for making a meaningful impact on the lives of children and young people.

Responsibilities

- Provide individual counselling and psychological assessment to students across primary and high school ages.
- Deliver evidence‑based interventions and develop case formulations and reports.
- Collaborate with teachers, school communities and external agencies to improve learning and wellbeing outcomes.
- Participate in regular individual supervision with the Senior Psychologist, group supervision and professional development activities.
- Support teacher professional learning and contribute to the wider district school counselling team.

Qualifications

- Registered or provisionally registered psychologist, or eligible for registration with the Psychology Board of Australia.




- Experience in counselling using evidence‑based interventions with a demonstrated understanding of the mental health needs of children and young people.
- Experience in psychological assessment of children and young people, including case formulation and report writing.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with key stakeholders to improve learning and wellbeing outcomes for students from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability and willingness to travel between work sites and a valid unrestricted provisional or full driver’s licence.
- Unconditional full approval to teach or be in the process of obtaining such approval under the Teachers Award.
- Eligibility for a one‑off recruitment payment of $20,000, pro‑rata for part‑time roles.

- This position is under the Teachers Award. Applicants must have an unconditional, full approval to teach or be applying for one.
- Applicants must be licensed to drive and able to travel to multiple sites.
