About the Role:
The Women’s Health Counsellor is responsible for providing trauma informed and culturally appropriate therapeutic interventions and psychoeducational programs to women and individuals who identify as women. The role focuses on women's health and the unique health challenges experienced by women including Perinatal Mental Health and Unintended Pregnancy.
The role also encompasses a Health Promotion aspect which includes the facilitation of therapeutic and educational groups, as well as planning, implementation and evaluation of community-based health promotion activities to support positive health and wellbeing outcomes for women.

Key Responsibilities: (dependent on role/program):
- Provision of evidence-based therapeutic assessment and interventions for women and individuals who identify as women.
- Provision of crisis intervention for women including those who have experienced recent sexual assault or disclosure or are needing urgent support in relation to an unplanned pregnancy.
- Provision of triage screening assessments for new referrals and active waitlist management support for clients
- Provision of evidence-based group counselling interventions for women
- Design and facilitation of therapeutic and educational groups, as well as planning, implementation and evaluation of community-based health promotion activities to support positive health and wellbeing outcomes for women
- Assist Health Promotion Officer design and develop promotional materials for health promotion activities and annual information campaigns using a variety of media formats including social media, pamphlets, posters, websites, and radio.
- Interagency consultation and collaborative case management
- Active engagement in reflective practice, clinical supervision and professional development.
About You:
Allambee is looking for a passionate, motivated individual who either has experience in providing women's health/perinatal counselling or or who has experience in counselling and is looking to make a move into this specialized area.
The role is part-time. Days/hours negotiable.
Successful candidates will bring the following:
- A tertiary qualification in Psychology, Social Work, or Counselling or related discipline with knowledge and experience relevant to the role and eligibility for membership in the relevant professional association.
- 12 months or more experience in in providing counselling interventions to children, adolescents and/or adults.
- Experience and a comprehensive understanding of women's health and the unique health challenges experienced by women and individuals who identify as a women
- An understanding of family and domestic violence,
sexual assault/abuse, and the impact of trauma consistent with widely accepted theoretical frameworks and therapeutic interventions in keeping with the values and guiding principles of the organisation
- Experience, understanding and appreciation of issues for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
- Understanding and appreciation of issues for people from diverse genders and cultural backgrounds
- Self-management and reflective practice skills to: manage work related stress; reflect on performance; be open to and act on feedback; and actively participate in professional supervision and development
- Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
Desirable:
- Experience in providing counselling interventions for women in relation to perinatal mental health.
The successful candidate must have current National Police Clearance valid within one year, a WA Working with Children Check (or equivalent), and a current WA Driver’s Licence (or equivalent).
