The position of Clinical Psychologist is located in the Adolescent Mental Health Inpatient Unit (AMHIPU), Shellharbour Hospital. The AMHIPU is a 6 bed (declared) specialist acute mental health inpatient unit which cares for children and adolescents with serious mental health presentations. The unit provides a safe, developmentally appropriate and therapeutic environment.
The key function of this position is to provide evidence based assessment, information and treatment for young persons. This may involve brief interventions, assessment, initiating and managing planned treatment options, consultation and referral to other agencies or crisis management. A stepped care approach is recommended working with the young person and their family/carers to achieve their treatment goals.
The role will involve conducting psychological research and evaluation projects as required. This will involve collaborating with senior clinicians to implement research projects that can be disseminated and applied in clinical practice. Plus undertake all duties a Psychologist and Senior Psychologist as described in the Award.
Shellharbour Hospital , located on Dharawal Country, is a busy acute care facility which provides emergency services, elective surgical services, general medicine, antenatal and primary family health care, satellite renal dialysis, and adolescent and adult mental health services on site. It's an accredited healthcare facility with the Australian Council on Health Care Standards (ACHS) and is recognised as providing a high standard of care to the community.
Located on the beautiful South Coast of NSW, Shellharbour is known for its spectacular coastal scenery and is only a little over a 1.5 hour drive from Sydney.
