About the Role
We're looking for a Junior Lawyer – Disputes & Litigation to join the ABC's Legal team and work on a diverse range of disputes, complaints and litigation matters that support one of Australia's most recognised public institutions.
Reporting to the Head of Disputes & Litigation , you'll provide legal advice across the ABC's operations while developing your expertise in media law. You'll work alongside experienced lawyers on matters involving defamation, copyright, contempt of court, suppression orders, intellectual property and regulatory investigations, gaining exposure to some of the most interesting legal issues in the Australian media landscape.
Responsibilities
- Assisting with complaints, litigation and legal research across the ABC
- Drafting pleadings, court documents and legal correspondence
- Supporting pre-publication legal advice and media law matters
- Briefing and instructing external counsel
- Assisting with litigation management, subpoenas and compulsory information requests
- Working collaboratively with legal colleagues and internal stakeholders across the organisation

About You
You're an early-career lawyer who enjoys solving complex legal problems and thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment. You're curious, commercially minded and have a genuine interest in media law, freedom of expression and the legal issues that shape Australia's media landscape.
Qualifications
- Admission as an Australian Legal Practitioner with at least two years' post-qualification experience in litigation
- Experience managing litigation matters and legal complaints with appropriate supervision
- Strong legal research, drafting and analytical skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- The ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively under pressure
- Strong judgement, attention to detail and a team-oriented approach
- An interest in media law, including defamation, copyright and freedom of expression
