Position Overview

Primary Connect is part of the Woolworths Group and manages supply chain operations for a network of over 3,000 retail stores across Australia and New Zealand. The Sydney Chilled & Fresh Distribution Centre requires a permanent onsite Transport Operations Manager to lead operational and service excellence. Key Responsibilities

- Manage transport operations within budget expectations to ensure effective service provision to stores while achieving end‑to‑end cost targets.
- Create and maintain positive partnerships with 3PL transport providers, coordinating daily tasks and conducting regular performance reviews.
- Coordinate interactions between DC operations, 3PL service providers, and the store network.
- Collaborate with 3PL partners to optimise planning, allocation, and fleet utilisation, minimising costs and improving operational efficiencies.
- Oversee peak‑season events and contingency plans to maintain business continuity.
- Supervise daily site operations, monitor loading procedures, and resolve customer issues.
- Lead and mentor a small team, promoting multi‑skilling, development, and continuous improvement.
- Promote a safety culture, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and company policies.





Qualifications & Experience

- Proven experience managing transport operations and 3PL carrier performance in a large FMCG or retail environment.
- Demonstrated achievements in service delivery and cost management.
- Commercial acumen and experience managing operational budgets.
- Hands‑on leadership and coaching skills, with the ability to support and engage teams and drive positive change.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, conflict‑resolution, and negotiation skills.
- Understanding of SH&E; matters including COR regulations and codes of practice.
- Flexibility to be available for out‑of‑hours escalations, including weekends.
