Position Information
School: Sydney Secondary College Balmain Campus (Port Jackson area) with current enrolment of 810 students. The middle school setting includes selective and comprehensive streams, support classes for autism, high potential gifted education programs, enrichment opportunities, and a Specialist HSC Acceleration and Maths compaction programme. Students and staff enjoy waterfront facilities, sporting and enrichment programs, and a range of core and elective subjects. The school fosters wellbeing through a proactive support team including Deputy Principals, Head Teacher Wellbeing, Year Advisers, Aboriginal Education Officers, LGBTQAI+ Coordinator, and School Counsellors.
Specific Selection Criteria
- Demonstrated expertise in designing, coordinating, and reviewing Individual Education Plans, Behaviour Support Plans, Wellbeing Plans, or equivalent programmes for students requiring additional support.
- Proven ability to analyse and utilise qualitative and quantitative data to monitor student progress, evaluate intervention effectiveness, and guide strategic planning for continuous improvement in learning support services.
- Extensive knowledge of education legislation, departmental policies, and compliance requirements specific to learning support, disability services, and student wellbeing, ensuring programs align with regulatory standards.
- Demonstrated leadership in fostering culturally responsive and inclusive learning support practices for diverse learners, particularly improving outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students through partnerships with students, families, external professionals, health and welfare agencies, and communities.
General Selection Criteria
1. Successful teaching experience with the capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice.
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs.
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams.
4. Well‑developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents.
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning.
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy.
Conditions
Unconditional full approval to teach is required. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching prospect.
