Drover Ag Recruitment

Ali Curung

- Manage an expansive 1.5M-acre breeder block with complete operational autonomy
- Oversee a dual cattle enterprise and iconic outback roadhouse and tourism hub
- Work directly alongside a supportive family ownership structure as true partners

The Story
Our client is a family-owned agricultural business that manages a diverse range of both organic and non-organic beef properties across Queensland and the Northern Territory. What sets them apart is their absence of corporate red tape and bureaucracy. They avoid endless daily reporting and lengthy approval processes—if an idea is sound, they empower their managers to act on it immediately.

This is a unique opportunity for the right management couple to shape a role that plays to their strengths. You won't be confined to a rigid corporate structure here; our clients are seeking leaders who want to manage Tobermorey as their own. You will be supported by a highly collaborative family ownership model, working alongside the owners as a team rather than just for them.

The Operation
Tobermorey Station spans 1.5 million acres along the Plenty Highway, approximately 280 km southwest of Mt. Isa. This expansive breeding property runs between 10,000 and 12,000 Santa Gertrudis and Brahman-cross breeders, with a dry stock capacity of up to 30,000 head. The land features an outback mixed terrain, combining the heavy alluvial floodplains of the Georgina River system with Mitchell grass downs, buffel and spinifex pastures, and protective Gidyea and Mulga scrub.

Over the last five years, our clients have made significant investments in the property. Almost all of the land has been re-fenced, including over 500 km of new fencing. Additionally,

65 km of recent pipelines and tank/trough networks have been established, along with solar bores integrated with Farmbot remote monitoring. To support these improvements, all station plant and heavy machinery are modern, well-maintained, and extensive, enabling them to complete nearly all infrastructure development and maintenance in-house.

The business operates its own fleet of road trains, heavy equipment, and station helicopters. If you hold a pilot's license, aviation duties can also be integrated into your role, and there is ample space to house an aircraft or helicopter on-site, thanks to the station's high-quality airstrip and facilities.

The Role
This co-management position reports directly to the absent owners and encompasses both large-scale pastoral operations and a commercial roadside hospitality hub. On the pastoral side, you will have full autonomy to manage the entire enterprise and lead a large team of staff. Your responsibilities will include breeder management, mustering rounds, livestock welfare, property development, and in-house plant operations. Essentially, you will oversee all aspects of the property's pastoral operations.

For the roadhouse and tourism side of the business,

the partner's role is flexible and can be tailored to your preferred management style—whether you choose to be hands-on or adopt a more supervisory approach. Regardless of your management style, be prepared to roll up your sleeves and work alongside the team during peak seasons. The right couple can truly make this role their own, finding a balance that keeps the business thriving while ensuring that the demands of daily operations do not overwhelm their lifestyle.

The Ideal Candidates
Our clients are seeking a mature, resilient, and honest couple who possess a strong work ethic and a steady approach to outback life. Candidates should have a proven background in managing large breeding herds, as well as experience with extensive water and fencing infrastructure and station machinery. Equally important are strong interpersonal skills, sound commercial judgment, and the ability to communicate respectfully with station staff, travellers, and the owners.

The Offer
Our clients are offering an exceptional and competitive remuneration package tailored just for you! You will enjoy a spacious, air-conditioned homestead with 5 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, providing privacy and comfort away from the roadhouse. Most of your needs are included in the package, with all usual station inclusions supplied to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for everyone.

Interested?
If you are ready to step away from corporate micromanagement and partner with a family business that truly values your autonomy, we want to hear from you. Please submit your joint resume and professional references. For a confidential conversation, please call John Boote on 0428 245 261.
