What You'll Be Doing
This Level 3 Genetic Counsellor position provides a unique opportunity to contribute to both clinical excellence and innovative research in pediatric and adolescent cancer genetics.
The role requires advanced clinical reasoning, professional knowledge, and independent judgement to manage complex and novel cases with a high degree of autonomy and minimal direct supervision.
The successful applicant will deliver specialised genetic counselling and support to patients and their families and facilitate genetic testing under the supervision of a clinical geneticist within the Kids Cancer Genetics service at the Kids Cancer Centre, Sydney Children's Hospital Network (SCHN). The role may involve working across the Randwick and Westmead sites, as agreed.
This full-time (1.0 FTE) position comprises 0.6 FTE dedicated to clinical service delivery and 0.4 FTE to cancer genetics research and implementation.
In the clinical component, the Genetic Counsellor will provide expert counselling, support the integration of genetic testing into cancer care for children and adolescents/young adults, and contribute to service coordination, including supervision of junior staff, workload management, and professional development activities.




In the research component, the role will contribute to research leadership in collaboration with the Children's Cancer Institute as part of the national ZERO Childhood Cancer Precision Medicine Program, supporting the expansion and implementation of precision oncology initiatives for patients up to 25 years of age.

Responses to the questions below:
Post graduate qualification in genetic counselling and/or have attainment of "Board eligible" status in genetic counselling from the Human Genetics Society of Australasia (HGSA)
Demonstrated extensive knowledge and experience in the provision of genetic counselling, particularly in cancer genetics, with well-developed organizational and advanced clinical reasoning skills
Demonstrated understanding of the application of genomic medicine in both clinical care and research, with focus on paediatric oncology
Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines in a complex workplace.
Proven ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team, while also operating independent with minimal direct clinical supervision
Highly developed interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage with a range of internal and external stakeholders
Demonstrated computer literacy,



including proficiency in the use of health information systems.
