Legal Counsel / Senior Legal Counsel
Location: Sydney CBD (flexible working allowed)
Package: $230,000 - $250,000 base, plus super, plus discretionary bonus
About the Company
An established renewable energy investment platform operating as a long-term asset owner with a growing multi-gigawatt portfolio across Australia. The business holds majority ownership in several operational wind assets and is expanding into Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) development on owned land.
Part of a major international energy group, the company offers robust financial backing, stability, and an opportunity to shape the evolution of legal, compliance, and risk frameworks as it continues to scale towards potential ASX listing readiness.
The Opportunity
This newly created role has been designed to support the company’s growth and ongoing preparation for an eventual IPO. Reporting directly to the EGM of Compliance you’ll work closely with senior executives across People & Culture, Compliance, and the wider leadership team.
You’ll play a key role in developing and uplifting legal, governance, and risk structures, providing both strategic and hands‑on legal advice across the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide end-to-end legal advice across corporate, commercial, regulatory, and compliance matters.
- Support preparation for potential ASX listing, including governance frameworks and policy development.
- Lead and advise on contract management, project documentation, and stakeholder negotiations.
- Contribute to a governance, risk, and compliance (GRC)
uplift program in collaboration with external advisors.
- Develop and implement compliance frameworks, risk policies, and corporate governance structures.
- Advise on regulatory submissions, corporate transactions, and FIRB applications.
- Partner with senior leadership to ensure strong legal and risk oversight.
- Deliver internal training to promote a proactive compliance culture.
- Provide legal solutions within international and cross-cultural teams, particularly across the APAC region.
About You
- Australian-qualified lawyer with 5–10 years PQE.
- Background ideally in‑house (asset owner, developer, EPC, or energy/infrastructure) or private practice with energy, infrastructure, or project finance experience.
- Experience with FIRB applications highly regarded.
- Strong understanding of corporate governance, compliance, and risk management frameworks.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Commercially minded, pragmatic, and proactive in problem‑solving.
- Leadership experience or readiness to progress into a senior legal leadership role.
- Exposure to international or APAC‑based organisations advantageous.
