Professor Jonathan Rhodes, Director of the QUT Centre for Environment and Society and Chair of the Healthy Land & Water Science Impact Council, invites expressions of interest from people interested in helping shape a science-led environmental agenda for South East Queensland.

Healthy Land & Water is seeking expressions of interest for members of the newly established Science Impact Council: a small, high-calibre group of independent experts who will help lead an evidence-based environmental agenda for SEQ.

Healthy Land & Water is SEQ's regional natural resource management organisation. With a 25-year history of environmental leadership built on strong science, our team works every day to understand, monitor, protect and improve the region's natural assets. Our work spans science, monitoring, research, capacity building, partnerships and practical environmental action. The Science Impact Council will build on this foundation by bringing together independent experts to help set an evidence-based environmental agenda for SEQ, inform policy, and communicate clearly for nature. While independent in its advice, the Council will be convened and supported by Healthy Land & Water, drawing on the organisation's long-standing scientific expertise and regional leadership.

SEQ is at a defining moment. The region is growing faster than almost anywhere in Australia. The 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games are coming. Climate change and rapid development are placing real and growing pressure on the landscapes, waterways and lifestyle that make SEQ extraordinary. The decisions made now in planning,



policy and investment will shape this region's workplace for generations to come. The need for evidence-based policy has never been greater, and the Healthy Land & Water Science Impact Council will help meet that need.

Who we're looking for

We are looking for recognised experts in workplace and sustainability who are based in SEQ and can add real value to science-led environmental outcomes. Relevant expertise may come from natural science, environmental monitoring, research, environmental law, economics, agriculture, social science, First Nations knowledge systems, capacity building, partnerships, or other fields that shape environmental outcomes. You do not need to be a scientist by training; however, you do need a strong respect for evidence, the judgement to distinguish science-led advice from personal advocacy, and the confidence to communicate clearly, influence decision-makers, and work as part of a collegiate body that speaks with one voice.

While academic credentials are highly regarded, so is deep professional experience and recognised standing in your field. What matters most is credibility, influence, sound judgement, respect for science, and genuine passion for SEQ's natural environment.

The commitment

Term: Three years.

Meetings: Three to four meetings per year, approximately three hours each, held in person in SEQ and one strategic workshop per year. Occasional public engagement including policy submissions, media and articles is expected.

Remuneration: Positions are not remunerated, however reasonable out of pocket expenses will be covered.
