Position Information
The Department of Education supports secondary students with disability, and their families, to successfully transition from school to meaningful post-school pathways through a student-centred planning approach. This process involves strong collaboration between students, families, schools, School Services teams, and a range of community-based education, training, employment and specialist service providers. The Support Teacher Transition (STT) is a specialist role that works alongside schools to facilitate personalised transition planning for secondary students with disability.
In supporting students, families, teachers and allied support staff, the Support Teacher Transition may:
- Provide advice on curriculum pathways and subject selection.
- Support vocational preparation and access to Higher School Certificate (HSC) Vocational Education and Training (VET) opportunities.
- Provide information and guidance regarding pathways to further education, training, employment, and community participation.
- Assist with transition and exit planning, including post-school options, transport and mobility, recreation and leisure activities, and access to community services.
This may involve collaboration with a range of government and non-government agencies to ensure successful post-school outcomes.
Selection Criteria
- Approval or willingness to teach special education and demonstrated successful experience in teaching students with intellectual disabilities, autism and complex behaviour and health care needs.
- Demonstrated capacity to successfully work with school Learning and Support Teams in developing and monitoring personalised transition planning and individual Transition Plans, including planning and advising students, families and schools on course and subject selection, employment, further education, mobility and recreation and leisure pursuits.
- Well-developed interpersonal, oral and written communication skills including experience in collaborating with government and non-government agencies.
- Demonstrated ability to support collaborative consultation with schools, students, families and various agencies including the NDIS.
- Ability and willingness to travel across Principal networks.
- Knowledge of and commitment to the Department of Education’s Aboriginal Education Policy.
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education,
