Queensland

CHQ is a specialist statewide hospital and health service dedicated to caring for children and young people from across Queensland and northern Current South Wales. Our vision is to lead life-changing care for children and young people for a healthier tomorrow. We do this through world-class care, research, advocacy and leadership, and collaborating with our healthcare partners, most importantly families, to ensure we consistently deliver safe, high-quality person‑centred care.

About The Team

The Assistant Director of Nursing – Integrated Ambulatory and Speciality Care Services is responsible for supporting the delivery of high-quality tertiary and quaternary ambulatory care within the Division of Medicine, Children’s Health Queensland Hospital and Health Service (CHQ HHS). The Division of Medicine provides general and specialist paediatric care to children and young people living in Queensland and Northern New South Wales.

The Division of Medicine also delivers state‑wide paediatric speciality services, including rehabilitation medicine, cerebral palsy, cystic fibrosis, oncology and haemophilia services.

About The Role

The Assistant Director of Nursing – Integrated Ambulatory and Speciality Care Services provides strategic, professional and operational nursing leadership for specialist nursing groups across the Division, including ambulatory and outpatient services within the Division of Medicine.

The role has a strong focus on advanced practice nursing leadership, ensuring nurse practitioners, clinical nurse consultants and nurse navigators are supported to practise at the top of scope, deliver high‑quality, patient‑centred care, and contribute to service innovation and system improvement.

The role is accountable for strengthening professional nursing practice,

clinical governance and capability across ambulatory services, embedding contemporary standards, regulatory requirements and professional frameworks within everyday practice.

This includes building and sustaining a strong nursing leadership pipeline through coaching, mentorship, succession planning and targeted workforce development, aligned to current and emerging service needs.

A core function of the role is to ensure ambulatory and advanced practice nursing models are evidence‑informed, contemporary, leading practice and future‑focused.

Through active national and international collaboration and benchmarking, the role identifies and implements cutting-edge models of care, professional practice frameworks and workforce approaches that position the Division at the forefront of ambulatory care delivery.
