Senior Manager, Legal Counsel (Property)

McDonald’s Australia is the largest quick service restaurant operation in the country. Based in Thornleigh, NSW, AU.

Role Seniority: senior, director.

Key Responsibilities

- Act as the senior property legal advisor to the National Development Group across all states and territories
- Provide end‑to‑end legal support across development, planning, construction, design, portfolio and asset management
- Lead and advise on freehold and leasehold acquisitions, agreements for lease, development agreements and complex leasing arrangements
- Support the business on construction contracts and disputes, balancing legal risk with commercial outcomes
- Serve as a senior escalation point on complex property matters
- Oversee FIRB reporting and compliance obligations
- Drive continuous improvement across legal processes, templates and governance
- Partner closely with senior stakeholders to enable speed to market and quality decision‑making
- Lead, coach and develop Legal Counsel within the property practice
- Foster a collaborative, high‑performing team culture
- Contribute to broader Legal team initiatives, knowledge sharing and best practice
- Support the adoption of new ways of working and legal technology to improve efficiency and consistency

Key Qualifications

- 10+ years’ post‑qualification experience practising property law
- Experience from a top‑tier or mid‑tier law firm (in‑house experience highly regarded)




- Strong experience managing complex property portfolios with multiple stakeholders
- A pragmatic, commercially minded approach to managing risk
- Proven ability to operate autonomously with sound judgement
- Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills at senior levels
- Demonstrated experience mentoring and coaching junior lawyers
- Confidence thriving in a fast‑paced, high‑volume setting
