An exciting opportunity has arisen within our team as a Skills Coach working with an exceptionally motivated team of professionals implementing Treatment Foster Care of Oregon (TFCO), a highly acclaimed, evidence-based intervention.

Treatment Foster Care Oregon for Children (TFCO-C) is an evidence-based treatment program that supports and treats children with significant behavioural challenges. TFCO provides a high level of support and intervention to children and young people in a more natural setting - the home of an approved Foster Carer. The TFCO model contains several components including training and support for the foster carer/s, family therapy for the child young person’s parent/aftercare placement, skills training for the child or young person, education support. and case management and consultation.

An individualised treatment plan is developed for each child or young person in the program with goals that focus on improving the child’s emotional and behavioural functioning; promoting positive educational outcomes; and building strong family relationships. A child’s goals are met through close supervision, fair and consistent limits, predictable consequences, and supportive relationships with mentoring adults.

The purpose of the position is to support to the TFCO-C treatment model by providing weekly coaching to a child or young person focusing on the goals set out in their plan. The Skills Coach positively influences the child or young person to improve their skills and behaviour.

**_Your role_**
- Work with children and youth,



ages 7-11 or 12-17 years, with behavioural challenges to provide a consistent, reinforcing environment in which pro-social skills are learned and practiced.
- Work closely with a positive, solution-oriented and supportive team
- Work with highly trained professional foster parents
- Solve problems, using your creativity and sense of humour
- Ensure this behavioural model is delivered with fidelity
- Transform the lives of children and families

**Skills & Experience required**
- Ability to observe a child/young person’s behaviour and implement a behaviour management plan.
- Knowledge and familiarity of behaviour management principles and ways of facilitating behaviour change is preferred
- Demonstrate conceptual understanding of developmentally appropriate behaviour for
children/adolescents across various settings (school, community, home)
- Ability to establish a robust relationship with a child/young person that combines warmth and
humour with effective modelling and coaching of prosocial skills
- Ability to provide skill-building training and practice and a reinforcing approach to assist a child/young person in the acquisition of new skills
- Ability to work cooperatively with Program Supervisor to implement weekly treatment plan, accept supervision well, be readily available for supervision, attend meetings, complete assigned paperwork




- Knowledge and skills in ensuring the health and protection of children and young people, leadership and management experience in this context. Knowledge of the Child Protection and out-of-homecare system, standards, and practices
- An understanding of cultural contexts and the unique needs of Aboriginal children and young people.
- Understanding of the broad range of issues impacting on the community services sector
A strong interest or experience in the mental health field is preferred.

**Must be available on Thursday mornings for clinical team meeting, and other regular days as required**

**Essential Cert IV in Youth Work or tertiary qualification in community services, psychology or social work /and or relevant experience**
