**POSITION PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE**

This position undertakes relief work to directly contribute to the provision of effectively run
waste management facility and kerbside collection services to the community. To work
within and contribute to a multi-skilled team that promotes Council’s service image by
providing courteous, responsive, and effective customer service.

**Key External Relationships**:Blue Mountains residents and customers

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**
- To work within and contribute to a multi-skilled team environment.
- Undertake relief work as required.
- To improve public understanding of Council’s waste and recycling services
- To provide high quality customer service
- Participate in the review of all work procedures as directed and attend toolbox

meetings as required.
- Maintain and submit records as relevant and required for the service.
- Carry out all duties required to collect domestic waste using a side arm collection

vehicle.
- Carry out all duties required to operate the kerbside Booked Waste Service




- Carry out all duties required to operate the weighbridge at the Resource Recovery &
Waste Management Facilities
- Carry out duties required with operating the Small Vehicle Area at the Resource

Recovery & Waste Management Facilities
- Operate relevant machinery to effectively assist in the day-to-day operations of the

Resource Recovery & Waste Management Facilities. This includes, but is not limited
to:
o Excavator (both tracked and wheeled) Operation.
- Tracked Loader Operation
- Wheel Loader Operation
- Water Cart Driver
- Hook lift Truck Driver
- Forklift Operation
- Material Handler Operation
- Landfill Compacting
- Cardboard Bailing
- EPS recycling (Polystyrene)
- Weighbridge Operation
- Other relief work relating to the waste collection services:

- Parks and Town Centre Waste Collection
- Bin deliveries and repairs
- Wheel out, wheel back service

**Workplace Health & Safety**

Ensure compliance with WHS obligations and responsibilities as outlined in Councils
policies and procedures and under the relevant WHS legislation. These include but are
not limited to: identifying potentially unsafe situations or work practices and notifying your
Supervisor or Manager (or the Health, Safety Manager/Area Safety Representative);
never performing a task that you believe is dangerous or for which you do not have the
experience, or have not received appropriate instructions and training or where the correct

equipment to carry out the task safely is not available; always work in a safe manner and
in accordance with safety instructions, where applicable; use the work equipment supplied
for the job, in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions), and any personal
protective equipment, which the Council deems necessary and has provided; be safety
aware and report any actions to your line manager which will assist the Council to meet
its legal workplace health and safety obligations.

You have the right to cease or direct cessation of unsafe work. In addition, you are always
required to comply with Councils Asbestos Management Plan and Policy.

**COMMUNICATION**

This position will be required to communicate effectively with staff within the teams they
work in each day. This will include communicating information across teams and advice
in the development of procedures to ensure continual improvement in the work.

They will also need to communicate effectively with customers at the Waste Management
Facilities to help them understand services
