The Far North Queensland Region is seeking an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Liaison Officer (Identified) to join the Student, Child, and Family Connect Team at the Cairns Regional Office. This position will support the Early Action Group multi‑agency initiative as the departmental representative.
The Early Action Group aims to address the underlying factors that contribute to youth offending, improve the functioning of high‑risk young people and their families, and build a stronger, safer community. By bringing a multi‑agency strategic and operational response, the group will address the complex cultural, social, and economic factors that negatively impact at‑risk young people, families and communities.
Your Responsibilities
- Engage and provide direct support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and families at risk of disengaging or disengaged from education through partnering with communities, stakeholders and government agencies.
- Develop relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community, stakeholders, government and non‑government agencies and identify pathways for families to enhance outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.
- Prepare submissions, reports,
briefing material and correspondence on intensive case management issues for the Director SCFC and the Manager EJI.
- Adhere to the highest standard of conduct, confidentiality and information privacy requirements of the department.
Other Responsibilities (as required)
- The Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander Liaison Officer, Cairns Early Action Group reports to the Nominated EJI Manager, Mick Gooiker, Cairns Regional Office, Far North Region.
