Overview of the Role
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Facility Maintenance Supervisor to oversee all aspects of maintenance, safety, and operations at our multi-purpose equine facility. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with a strong background in facility management, knowledge of equine safety and welfare, and the ability to ensure an exceptional experience for horses, competitors, event organisers, spectators, and staff.
Key Responsibilities
Facility Maintenance – Manage the upkeep and long-term care of all buildings, arenas, grounds, and infrastructure.
Team Leadership – Supervise and schedule maintenance staff and contractors to ensure efficient task completion.
Safety Management – Conduct inspections and enforce safety standards to protect people and animals, ensuring regulatory compliance.
Event Support – Assist with setup and logistics for shows, clinics, and equine events.
Resource Management – Oversee inventory and supply needs for facility operations.
Equipment Oversight – Maintain and coordinate repairs for facility equipment and machinery.
Communication – Foster clear, collaborative communication with staff, vendors, and event organisers.
Administrative Duties – Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, inspections, and incidents.
Emergency Preparedness – Develop and train staff on emergency plans for various on-site situations.
Qualifications
- VCE or equivalent preferred; TAFE or technical certification in facility management, agriculture, or related field preferred.
- Minimum 3 years' experience in facility, property, or operations management—preferably in an equine, agricultural, or recreational setting.
- Strong mechanical and technical skills; ability to troubleshoot and oversee repairs of buildings and equipment.
- An understanding of horse care, safety standards, and the unique needs of an equestrian facility.
- Excellent leadership, organisational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient with basic computer applications (email, spreadsheets, maintenance tracking).
- Physically able to perform and oversee strenuous activities and work outdoors in all conditions.
- Valid driver’s license; ability to operate facility vehicles and machinery.
- A satisfactory Working with Children Check and Criminal Record Check.
About Werribee Park National Equestrian Centre
Werribee Park National Equestrian Centre (WPNEC) is Victoria’s leading venue for equestrian sports and the largest of its kind in the state. Situated on 34 hectares within the Werribee Park Precinct, the Centre boasts extensive facilities including indoor and outdoor arenas, two polo fields, an international-level cross country course, 181 stables, 390 day yards, 375 campsites, and comprehensive amenities. The Centre’s prime location is surrounded by major attractions including Werribee Mansion, Werribee Open Range Zoo, the State Rose Garden, Werribee Golf Course, and Shadowfax Winery.
