About Us

The South Australian Metropolitan Fire Service (MFS) is responsible for protecting the South Australian community from the effects of fire, road crashes, chemical incidents, and other emergencies. We are a team of approximately 1,300 operational personnel and corporate professionals serving the community across 20 metropolitan and 17 regional fire stations.

About the Role

The Manager, Engineering Workshop plays a key leadership role within the Infrastructure and Logistics Department, overseeing the management and operations of the MFS Engineering Workshop at Wingfield.

The position is responsible for ensuring the effective and efficient maintenance, servicing, and repair of the MFS's specialist fleet, plant, and equipment, supporting operational readiness and community safety.

Reporting to the Commander, Infrastructure and Logistics, the role manages a team of workshop staff and technical professionals and ensures all activities meet the highest standards of safety, quality, and compliance.

As the Manager Engineering Workshop, you will:

Lead and supervise workshop operations to ensure efficient delivery of maintenance and repair programs for MFS vehicles and equipment.

Provide expert technical and managerial guidance across engineering services, asset management, and fleet operations.

Manage and develop workshop staff, ensuring training, performance, and safety standards are met.

Monitor and report on financial and operational performance, ensuring cost-effective resource use and accurate forecasting.

Oversee contractors, suppliers, and procurement to ensure value-for-money outcomes and compliance with government requirements.

Maintain a strong safety culture and ensure adherence to Work Health and Safety legislation and MFS policies.





Contribute to infrastructure and fleet planning, including lifecycle management, refurbishment, and asset replacement programs.

Promote continuous improvement by benchmarking best practice and ensuring workshop systems and processes remain modern and effective.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

Demonstrated experience managing an engineering or mechanical workshop, ideally in a fleet, automotive, or emergency services environment.

Strong leadership skills with proven experience supervising a team and managing performance, training, and safety.

Extensive knowledge of automotive and heavy vehicle maintenance, including pneumatic, hydraulic, and low-voltage electrical systems.

Experience managing complex engineering or maintenance programs with attention to quality, efficiency, and cost control.

Strong communication and problem-solving skills with the ability to build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Sound knowledge of Work Health and Safety legislation, risk management, and industrial relations practices.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office and asset management systems.

Essential Qualifications:

Desirable Qualifications:

Diploma in Asset Management or Certificate IV in Maintenance Management (or equivalent).

Appropriate indentured trade certificate (or equivalent).

Elevated Work Platform (EWP) licence.
