Shape growth with integrity and impact. At the City of Armadale, we’re one of WA’s fastest-growing local governments — and our Statutory Planning function sits at the centre of how our City evolves. We’re looking for a planning leader who thrives on structure, governance, and precision — someone who can balance technical rigour with empathy and fairness and guide a high-performing team to deliver transparent, defensible, and community‑minded planning outcomes.

About the role

You’ll lead the City’s Statutory Planning, Compliance and Planning Administration teams, ensuring that development applications, scheme amendments and compliance matters are managed with clarity, consistency, and professionalism. Your work will influence how our City grows — from ensuring quality development outcomes to representing the City in statutory forums such as the DAP and State Administrative Tribunal. Every decision you make will help build community confidence in the planning system and strengthen trust between developers, residents, and government.

Key outcomes

- Leading and developing a capable, high‑performing team.
- Exercising delegated authority to make clear, consistent and lawful planning decisions.
- Embedding governance, probity and risk management into every process.
- Advocating for sound planning outcomes through skilled forums and stakeholder partnerships.
- Championing digital transformation in planning services – improving accessibility, data, and transparency.

About You

You’re a planner who combines deep technical knowledge with leadership maturity. You can navigate complexity calmly, communicate decisions clearly, and bring people along with you.

You’ll bring:

- Tertiary qualifications in Urban and Regional Planning (PIA‑recognised).
- Extensive experience in statutory planning and development assessment.
- A proven ability to lead professional planning teams.
- Strong knowledge of WA planning legislation and frameworks.
- Confidence representing your organisation in DAP, SAT, or other statutory settings.
- A collaborative, values‑driven approach that builds trust and consistency.

Why work with us?

We’re a values‑led organisation guided by our belief that we: Care | Are Better, Together | Learn & Grow | Seize Today, Shape Tomorrow. That means you’ll join a workplace where integrity, collaboration and continual improvement are part of everyday life – not just words on a wall.

You’ll also enjoy:

- Flexible working arrangements – hybrid options and RDO structures
- Free membership at Armadale Fitness and Aquatic Centre
- Study assistance and professional development support
- Superannuation matching up to 15%
- Health and wellbeing initiatives, EAP, and additional leave options
- A leadership team that genuinely values feedback, transparency and professional growth

Our Values

- Care – we look after ourselves, each other, and our community.
- Better Together – we collaborate, support, and celebrate.
- Learn & Grow – we’re curious, adaptable, and always improving.
- Seize Today, Shape Tomorrow – we take pride in creating a better future.

Ready to make a meaningful impact?
