The City of Subiaco Planning Services team was recently awarded the 2025 Planning Institute of Australia (PIA) (WA) Local Government Team of the Year (Band 2-4), along with several other awards for improving planning processes and performance and innovation in development assessment. The Planning Officers will facilitate the orderly and properly development of the City of Subiaco, within the guidelines of accepted town planning practices.

Job Description

Kindly note that we are accepting applications for both a permanent and fixed-term contract role.

IMPORTANT: To assist the City in narrowing down applicants for both roles, please note on your application your contract preference, or if you wish to be included for both opportunities.

The key responsibilities of this role include:

- Process and ownership of development application workflows for building works and changes in use in the City of Subiaco. Tasks include assessment, site visits, consultation with affected residents, negotiation with applicants and report writing.

- Process and ownership of development application referral workflows for building works and changes in use under the planning control of DevelopmentWA. Tasks include assessment, site visits and report writing.





- Process and ownership of Western Australian Planning Commission referral workflows for subdivision and amalgamation and process development applications for works on Metropolitan Region Scheme land. Tasks include assessment, site visits and report writing.

- Provide assistance for State Administrative Tribunal reviews of planning decisions. Tasks include research, site visits, provision of written statements and provision of expert planning advice during review hearings.

- Liaise with other City staff in the processing of applications for development approval as required.

- Provision of written and verbal advice in relation to zoning, land use and heritage, and other planning matters.

- Provide pre-lodgement planning advice to applicants.

- Other duties as required.

Essential Criteria:

- Well-developed verbal and written communication skills with a working knowledge of computer applications

- Understanding in development control and an ability to negotiate and liaise with developers and the community

- Understanding of current WA Planning and related legislation, policies and procedures including subdivision, amalgamation and strata title procedures

- Knowledge of both applications for review with the State Administrative Tribunal

- Degree in Urban Planning or related discipline (or working towards)

Salary Package:

In line with the City of Subiaco Inside Staff Industrial Agreement 2025, this position is classified as a Level 6. The salary range is $97,864 to $107,640 per annum, exclusive of superannuation.
