What's the role?
Are you a well-connected entertainment insider with a nose for a scoop and a knack for storytelling? We are looking for an exceptional Senior Celebrity Writer & Talent Booker to serve as the ultimate access engine for our entertainment portfolio. In this dual-focus role, you will leverage our national brand footprint across our major mastheads and the News Corp Australia network to secure, schedule, and distribute top-tier celebrity interviews, premiere junkets, and exclusive talent sit-downs. Beyond booking, you will be a lead editorial voice, writing major cover stories, long-form profiles, and high-impact reads that drive subscriber engagement. This role can be based out of our Sydney or Melbourne office.
About the role
In this role, you will connect world-class talent with a national audience across print and digital platforms:
- Negotiate and secure exclusive one-on-one sit-downs, international junket positions, and red-carpet moments across film, TV, music, streaming, and live events.
- Conduct and write major celebrity profiles, cover interviews for Sunday Confidential, and in-depth pieces for the Confidential franchise.
- Maintain a forward booking schedule (at least 8 weeks out) and work closely with the Editor to deploy interviews across the Entertainment network.
- Partner across News to pool access power for major international premieres, tours, and tentpole franchise events and coordinate national talent visits with local Confidential reporters.
- Pitch compelling ideas for major cultural tentpoles and deliver polished, subscription-driving stories that engage readers and turn casual browsers into subscribers.
- Flexibility on content - while each writer owns their primary round,
our entertainment pillar operates as an agile team where all journalists actively collaborate and contribute to our biggest national tentpoles, investigations, and breaking cultural moments.
Who are you?
We are seeking an energetic connector and compelling writer who thrives in a rapid-paced media environment. You have extensive experience securing high-profile, exclusive talent access in a fast-moving, highly competitive entertainment or news environment. You are a gifted interviewer and storyteller with a portfolio of captivating celebrity profiles, deep-dive features, and clean, engaging copy. You possess an established, active contacts book of publicists, agents, studio reps, and PR agencies across Australia and internationally. You operate with unflappable professionalism. You understand digital subscription drivers and know how to frame and deliver celebrity journalism that fuels reader acquisition and engagement. You excel at juggling multiple deadlines, coordinating access across distributed, matrixed teams, and managing complex scheduling logistics with calm precision.
