About the role
Do you enjoy helping people, building relationships and making a difference in their everyday lives?
Creativ Minds is looking for a caring, reliable and proactive Disability Support Worker & Mentor to join our growing team in Adelaide.
We support NDIS participants to build independence, develop new skills and get involved in activities they enjoy. This role involves working one-on-one with participants in their homes and out in the community, providing support that reflects their individual needs, interests and goals.
No two participants are the same. Some may need help with everyday tasks, while others may benefit from support to build confidence, develop social skills, explore new interests or become more involved in their community.
We're looking for someone who takes the time to get to know each participant, thinks creatively and enjoys finding ways to help people work towards their goals.
You'll often work independently during shifts, so being organised, confident taking initiative and able to manage your time well is important. You'll also be part of a team that values communication, collaboration and quality support.
What you'll be doing
Your day-to-day responsibilities will vary depending on the participants you support, but may include:
- Everyday living skills: Assisting with meal preparation, household tasks, budgeting, organisation and other daily activities.
- Community participation: Supporting participants to attend appointments, explore local activities, visit places of interest and become more involved in their community.
- Mentoring and personal development: Helping participants build confidence, develop new skills and work towards personal goals.
- Social connections: Supporting participants to maintain friendships, develop relationships and take part in social activities.
- Hobbies and interests: Coming up with ideas for activities based on what participants enjoy, whether that's sport, art, cooking, going for walks or trying something new.
- Personal care: Providing assistance with personal care and daily routines where required, in line with individual support plans and training.
- Planning and organisation: Helping participants maintain routines, plan activities and work towards their NDIS goals.
- Communication and documentation: Completing shift notes, keeping the team informed and raising any concerns or changes in participant needs with management.
- Transport: Safely driving participants to appointments and activities in your own vehicle when required.
An important part of this role is building trust and consistency. You'll need to be someone who follows through on commitments, respects each participant's choices and looks for opportunities to encourage independence rather than simply doing things for them.
What we're looking for
We're looking for someone who:
- Genuinely enjoys working with people and helping them achieve their goals.
- Is patient, understanding and respectful of individual needs and differences.
- Takes initiative and can plan activities without needing constant direction.
- Is creative and willing to try different approaches to keep participants engaged.
- Communicates well and knows how to build positive, professional relationships.
- Is reliable, punctual and organised.
- Can work independently while communicating effectively with the wider team.
- Understands the importance of confidentiality, professional boundaries and treating participants with dignity and respect.
- Is open to feedback, willing to learn and keen to develop their skills.
An understanding of mental health, psychosocial disabilities and neurodivergence would be beneficial.
Previous disability support experience is preferred not essential. We welcome applicants who have the right attitude, a genuine interest in the role and a willingness to learn.
Essential requirements
Applicants will need to have, or be willing to obtain, the relevant checks and training required for the role, including:
- NDIS Worker Screening Check
- NDIS Orientation Module
- Working With Children Check
- National Police Check
- First Aid and CPR certificates
- Infection Prevention and Control Certificate
- Manual handling training where required for assigned duties.
- Medication administration training where required for assigned duties
- A valid South Australian driver's licence.
- A reliable, registered and appropriately insured vehicle for shifts involving participant transport
All checks must be current and not expired
You must also be comfortable travelling between participant locations across metropolitan Adelaide as required.
Relevant qualifications in Disability, Aged Care, and Community Services or a related field are an advantage,
but not essential.
