The Senior System and Network Engineer role is an exciting and challenging position responsible for supporting systems and network needs, as well as providing expert technical consulting. The successful candidate will have a considerable IT technical background with expertise in data centres, infrastructure storage deployment, network services deployment and management, data storage and transmission efficiency analysis. The role focuses on supporting secure, large-scale, high-performance, highly-adaptable, multi-protocol, and robust services, while serving as a technical mentor and providing leadership through guidance to the team.
Core Responsibilities
The specific requirements will vary from project to project, but the core responsibilities are as follows:
▸ Administration of storage, compute and cloud infrastructure;
▸ Participate in capacity planning and usage trending;
▸ Implement and manage storage technologies such as auto-tiering, data replication, etc;
▸ Install, upgrade and patch bare metal and virtual machines using IaC practices;
▸ Perform day-to-day troubleshooting of infrastructure related issues, performance issues, etc;
▸ Ensure robustness, security, and scalability of systems and storage, and related infrastructure;
▸ Utilise system and storage software tools and utilities for monitoring, operational reporting and auditing for management and customers
▸ Participate in storage and other infrastructure procurement programmes;
▸ Provide L2/3 support,
for internal users and customers;
Qualifications / Industry Experience / Specific Knowledge or Skills
Essential:
▸ Tertiary qualifications or relevant experience in Computer Science (or other relevant IT field);
▸ Linux System Administration: Deep expertise in Linux server setups, command-line operations, troubleshooting performance issues, and user management.
▸ Virtualisation & Compute Platform Management: Hands-on experience deploying, running, and scaling VMs—specifically with KVM or OpenStack
▸ Automation & Infrastructure as Code: Demonstrated experience using Ansible (or Puppet) to automate OS installations, server configurations, and system updates at scale.
▸ Monitoring & Observability : Direct experience implementing and maintaining Zabbix, Prometheus, Grafana.
▸ Foundational Enterprise Networking & Security: Solid understanding of network protocols (TCP/IP), subnetting, web servers, relational databases, and hardware/software firewalls.
▸ Demonstrated experience with DevOps and IaC environments including Ansible and Puppet.
The role will be based at the Head Office in Sydney CBD and working from home under a hybrid (50/50) model.
