Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Data Engineer to join a 6-month contract engagement based in Sydney. The ideal candidate will have strong database and data engineering experience, excellent SQL and database performance tuning skills, and hands-on expertise with AWS data services.

You will be responsible for developing and maintaining data pipelines, optimising database performance, and supporting scalable, secure, cloud-native data solutions.

Key Responsibilities

- Design, develop, and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines and cloud-based data solutions.
- Work with AWS data services, including Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL, AWS Glue, Amazon Redshift, and Amazon QuickSight.
- Write, optimise, and troubleshoot complex SQL queries and database processes.
- Perform data modelling and database performance tuning.
- Develop data processing solutions using Python and/or PySpark.
- Support data integration, migration, and transformation activities.
- Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines and follow DevOps best practices.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams in an Agile delivery environment.
- Ensure data governance, security, quality, and operational reliability.





Required Skills and Experience

- Minimum 8 years of experience in database and data engineering.
- Strong expertise in SQL, database performance tuning, and data modelling.
- Hands-on experience with AWS data services, including:
- Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL
- AWS Glue
- Amazon Redshift
- Amazon QuickSight
- Proficiency in Python and/or PySpark.
- Experience building and supporting ETL/ELT pipelines.
- Understanding of cloud-native data architectures and data integration.
- Familiarity with Git, CI/CD, DevOps, and Agile methodologies.
- Knowledge of data governance, security, and production support.

Desirable Skills

- Experience with AWS Database Migration Service (DMS).
- Familiarity with AWS Schema Conversion Tool (SCT).
- Experience with database migration, schema conversion, and cloud modernisation projects.

Eligibility Requirements

- Must be an Australian citizen or have full working rights in Australia.
- Must be available to work on a 6-month contract based in Sydney, NSW.
