Why join us? DWF is seeking an Associate or Senior Associate, based in the Newcastle area, to provide high-quality legal advice and representation across a broad range of insurance litigation matters, with a particular focus on public liability and personal injury claims. This role would suit an experienced insurance lawyer or a solid litigator from another practice area who is looking to develop or broaden their insurance litigation expertise. The successful candidate will advise insurers, manage and defend litigation proceedings, draft legal documents, mentor and support junior lawyers, and contribute to client relationship management and business development initiatives. Responsibilities
• Manage a varied caseload of complex litigated and unlitigated insurance matters, with a focus on public liability and personal injury claims.
• Provide clear legal, strategic and coverage advice to insurers, including Australian and London market underwriters, while meeting client reporting requirements and KPIs.
• Draft and review pleadings, evidence, submissions, interlocutory documents, settlement agreements and other legal documents.
• Represent clients at court appearances, mediations and settlement conferences, and brief and instruct counsel and experts.
• Build effective relationships with insurers, insured clients and other stakeholders, and contribute to client relationship management and business development.
• Mentor and support junior lawyers while contributing to a collaborative, high-performing team. What will help you succeed in this role?
• At least four years’ post-admission experience in litigation, dispute resolution or insurance law.
• Experience in insurance litigation, personal injury or public liability is highly regarded; however, lawyers with strong transferable litigation and case-management skills are encouraged to apply.
• Strong analytical, drafting and communication skills, with sound judgement and close attention to detail.
• The ability to manage competing priorities, work autonomously and deliver high-quality work within client timeframes and requirements.
• A collaborative and proactive approach, with a commitment to client service, professional development and supporting junior team members.
• Confidence using legal practice-management and document-management systems, Microsoft Office and emerging technologies, including AI tools.
What we offer
• Flexible work from home model with all technology needs provided.
• 2 volunteer days off per year to support the community.
• Birthday leave.
