WEEDS MANAGEMENT OFFICER

Love working outdoors? Enjoy helping people? Looking for flexible hours or a possible traineeship?

Circular Head Council is looking for someone to join our team as a Weeds Management Officer. This part-time role is 18.75 hours per week, with flexible working arrangements and school-friendly hours available. If you enjoy getting outdoors, meeting people and looking after our local area, we would love to hear from you. Whether you are looking to start your career, returning to work, considering a career change or wanting to ease into retirement, this could be a great fit.

Make a difference in your local community

You will help identify and manage weeds across Circular Head, working on Council land, roadsides and other important areas. From visiting sites and checking weeds to talking with landowners and organising control work, you will play a part in protecting our environment.

Circular Head is a great place to live and work, with beautiful coastlines, farms and a strong community. This role gives you the chance to get out and about, work with local people and help care for the place we call home.

About the role

This is a diverse, hands-on role where no two days will be quite the same. You will help Council plan and carry out weed management work across the municipality. The position is part-time, working 18.75 hours per week.

You will spend time outdoors visiting sites, following up weed reports and working with landowners. You will also keep simple records and work with Council staff and other organisations to help manage weeds.

In this role, you will:

• Visit sites to identify weeds, check their spread and follow up community reports.

• Help plan, organise and carry out weed control work, including follow-up visits.

• Check that weed control work has been completed and is making a difference.

• Keep records of weed locations, treatments and follow-up work, including basic mapping.

• Talk with landowners, community members and other organisations to increase awareness about managing weeds and meeting relevant requirements.

About you

Do you enjoy working outdoors and meeting people? Are you practical, organised and willing to give new things a go? You might already work in farming, horticulture or land management, or you might be looking to start your career or try something different.

We are looking for someone who can work independently, communicate well with others and take pride in looking after our local area. You do not need to tick every box to have a conversation with us.

Ideally, you will have:

• A Certificate III or higher in horticulture, conservation, land management or a related field, or a genuine interest in this type of work and a willingness to learn.

• Some practical knowledge of plants, weeds or outdoor land management, or an interest in building these skills.

• A willingness to learn about weed management rules and how to work positively with landowners and community groups.

• Good organisation and communication skills, and confidence using a computer or learning new systems.

• A current driver’s licence and the ability to obtain Working with Vulnerable People registration and a National Police Check.

Interested in starting your career? Council may consider offering a traineeship for the right applicant.

What we offer

At Circular Head Council, you will join a supportive team that values equity, connection and excellence. We offer the chance to learn new skills, meet people across our community and make a real difference close to home.

Flexible working hours and school-friendly arrangements are available. Work conditions are in accordance with the Circular Head Council Enterprise Agreement.
