Asset Accountant The City of Melville is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Asset Accountant to join our Financial Services team. This specialist role is responsible for maintaining the accuracy, integrity and compliance of the City's financial asset records while supporting statutory reporting, capital project accounting, asset valuations and audit readiness. What You’ll Be Doing
Reporting to the Senior Financial Accountant, you will:
- Manage and maintain the City's asset accounting records, asset register and asset-related financial reporting.
- Process and review asset capitalisations, disposals, depreciation, impairments, transfers and revaluations.
- Reconcile asset registers, capital work in progress and balance sheet accounts, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Support capital project accounting and provide analysis on capital expenditure and asset implications.
- Coordinate month-end and year-end asset accounting activities, including financial statement disclosures and audit working papers.
- Assist with asset valuation and revaluation processes.
- Partner with project managers, asset custodians and operational teams to improve asset data quality and reporting outcomes.
- Provide specialist advice on asset accounting requirements, controls and compliance.
What We’re Looking For To be successful, you will have:
- Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
- A current National Police Clearance, or willingness to obtain and maintain.
- Demonstrated experience in asset accounting, including asset registers, capitalisation, depreciation, disposals, reconciliations and capital work in progress.
- Sound knowledge of accounting standards and financial reporting requirements relating to property, plant, equipment and infrastructure assets.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Well-developed communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- The ability to coordinate competing priorities and deliver outcomes within strict reporting deadlines.
Desirable Requirements
- CPA or CA membership (or progress towards membership).
- Experience in local government or the public sector.
- Experience using TechnologyOne or similar integrated financial and asset management systems.
- Experience supporting asset valuations and local government financial reporting
