An exciting opportunity has become available for an ambitious Assistant Accountant to join a growing construction business based in Brisbane CBD.
Working as part of a collaborative and supportive finance team, this role will provide broad exposure across bookkeeping, accounts payable, financial and project accounting, making it ideal for someone looking to build their technical skills and progress towards a Financial Accountant position.
You will work closely with experienced finance professionals and gain valuable exposure within a fast-paced, project-driven construction environment.
The Role Reporting to the senior finance team, your responsibilities will include:
- Manage day-to-day accounts payable, including processing supplier invoices and preparing payment runs
- Perform general bookkeeping duties and maintain accurate financial records
- Reconcile supplier statements and resolve invoice or payment queries
- Complete bank and credit card reconciliations
- Assist with accounts receivable and invoicing when required
- Assist with month-end processes, including journals, accruals and balance sheet reconciliations
- Support the preparation of monthly management and financial reports
- Assist with cash flow reporting and forecasting
- Support project accounting and cost reporting across multiple construction projects
- Assist with budgeting and forecasting processes
- Maintain accurate general ledger accounts
- Assist with BAS, GST and other statutory reporting requirements
- Support intercompany transactions and reconciliations
- Liaise with project teams, suppliers and internal stakeholders regarding finance queries
- Assist with audit preparation and year-end processes
- Support the Financial Accountant and wider finance team with reporting and analysis
- Identify opportunities to improve finance processes and efficiencies
- Provide general accounting and finance support as required
About You To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline
- Approximately 1–3 years' experience within an accounting, bookkeeping or finance role
- Experience with accounts payable, bookkeeping and reconciliations
- Previous experience within construction, property, engineering or a project-based environment will be highly regarded
- Exposure to month-end accounting and balance sheet reconciliations would be advantageous
- A valuable understanding of accounting principles
- Strong Excel skills and confidence working with accounting systems
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach
- A proactive attitude with a genuine desire to learn and develop
- An interest in completing or currently studying towards CA/CPA qualification
