Assistant Asset Accountant

We are seeking an Assistant Asset Accountant to join our Finance & Business Performance Division on a fixed-term contract for a period of two years.

Remuneration & Hours:
- 35 hour working week

- Base salary up to $85,000 plus Superannuation (Any offer made will be commensurate with the skills and experience of the successful candidate)

The Opportunity

As the Assistant Asset Accountant you will support the accurate and timely administration of Hunter Water's fixed asset registers and assists with capital project governance, asset accounting processes and related reporting activities.

What you'll do:

- Assist with the management of Hunter Water's fixed asset registers, ensuring compliance with internal policies and procedures.
- Preparation of month-end journals, adjustments, reconciliations and reporting of fixed asset information.
- Support the administrative function of capital projects including the review and processing of opening, closing and amending projects.
- Support the review of capital project work-in-progress and assist with the timely addition of capital assets.
- Ongoing review of all processes and systems identifying improvements and efficiency gains where appropriate. This includes providing support to ongoing improvement initiatives of the fixed asset function.
- Engage with all areas of business to ensure productive and effective fixed asset management practices at Hunter Water.




- Assist with the preparation of Hunter Water's internal and external reporting requirements associated with fixed assets.
- Assist with maintaining, reviewing and documenting fixed asset policies, procedures and work instructions.
- Provide support and guidance to stakeholders and finance team members on fixed asset processes, escalating complex matters as required.

What you'll need to be successful:

Essential Criteria:

- Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Commerce or related discipline
- Sound understanding of accounting principles and practices, reconciliations and financial administration practices
- Demonstrated ability to work efficiently in a deadline-driven workplace and to effectively manage challenges and changing priorities whilst still meeting team and corporate deadlines
- Confident communicator within a business environment

Desirable Criteria:

- Experience supporting the management of a fixed asset register
- CPA or CA designation or working towards designation
- Demonstrated understanding of Australian Accounting Standards, accounting policies and practices
