We are seeking Audit and Compliance Directors to join our Compliance and Engagement Group. You will lead people, programs and strategic outcomes in complex and dynamic environments. Drive priorities, build capability, influence stakeholders, provide authoritative advice and deliver outcomes that shape the ATO's approach to significant and emerging tax issues.

As an Audit and Compliance Director, you will work on some of Australia's most significant and complex direct and indirect tax matters across a diverse range of client groups and programs, including small business, public and multinational groups, privately owned and wealthy groups, superannuation and employer obligations, individuals and intermediaries, and tax integrity programs.

You will play a critical role in protecting the integrity of Australia's tax and superannuation systems by addressing complex risks, influencing significant decisions and helping shape the administration of the tax system into the future.

Whether your strengths lie in leading teams and programs or providing technical leadership on complex tax matters, you will influence stakeholders, provide clear and authoritative advice and contribute to outcomes that support the effective administration of Australia's tax and superannuation systems.

Successful candidates may be placed into Client Engagement Director or Tax Specialist Director roles based on organisational requirements and their skills, experience, leadership capability and technical expertise.

Our ideal candidate

- demonstrates significant professional experience leading or contributing to complex Australian taxation, GST or superannuation matters, applying technical judgement in both high-volume program settings and bespoke, high-risk or novel matters
- can lead high-performing skilled teams, develop capability, and drive change and continuous improvement
- shows strong business acumen and an understanding of commercial considerations and a demonstrated ability to solve complex and or contentious issues using sound judgement and evidence-based decision making
- has strategic leadership and enterprise thinking, including aligning work to organisational priorities and delivering outcomes that support broader objectives
- exhibits strong capability to influence internal and external stakeholders and build trusted relationships.
