Automation & AI Architect

Intellificial | Australia | Hybrid / Client Site as Required

Full-time | Senior / Principal | January 2027 commencement

About Intellificial

Intellificial is an Australian Quality Engineering and technology consultancy helping organisations modernise software quality through Automation, Quality Engineering and AI.

We work with clients across a range of industries to design and deliver practical technology solutions, while continuing to explore how emerging technologies can change the way software is engineered, tested and assured.

As we continue to build our Automation and AI capabilities, we are looking for a Senior / Principal Automation & AI Architect to join us from January 2027.

About the Role

This is a technology-first architecture role for someone who enjoys solving complex engineering problems, exploring emerging technologies and turning ideas into practical, scalable enterprise solutions.

You will help shape Intellificial's technical direction across Automation, Quality Engineering and AI, working closely with our leadership team, clients, engineering and QA leaders, account teams and technology partners.

The role has three interconnected dimensions:

Technology & Architecture - Core

Define technical strategy, architecture, standards and reusable solutions across Automation, QE and AI.

Sales & Pre-Sales - Important

Help translate client challenges into practical technical solutions and support solutioning, discovery, demonstrations, proposals and opportunities.

Delivery & Leadership - Important

Provide technical leadership across engagements and help ensure that architecture and technical standards translate effectively into delivery.

While all three areas are important, Technology & Architecture is clearly the core focus of this role.

What You'll Do

Technology & Architecture

- Define and lead technical architecture, standards and engineering practices for Automation, Quality Engineering and AI solutions.
- Design scalable, secure and sustainable automation solutions across UI, API, integration, data and performance.
- Evaluate emerging technologies across test automation, AI/GenAI, agentic automation and AI assurance, identifying where they can create practical enterprise value.
- Design and build reusable frameworks, accelerators and reference architectures.
- Explore and develop solutions involving AI-assisted test design, AI-powered automation, agentic/self-healing automation and AI/LLM assurance.
- Lead technology evaluations and build-vs-partner decisions.
- Work with technology and alliance partners to assess platforms, capabilities and opportunities.
- Provide technical guidance, mentoring, design reviews and code reviews to engineering and QE teams.
- Stay current with developments across AI/GenAI, agent frameworks, automation, CI/CD and cloud technologies.

Sales & Pre-Sales

- Work with client engineering and QA leaders to understand technical challenges, opportunities and future-state needs.

- Lead or support discovery workshops, maturity assessments, demonstrations and Proofs of Concept.
- Translate client requirements into practical technical architectures and solution approaches.
- Support solution estimates, proposals, RFPs and tenders.
- Work with account teams and technology partners to develop and present client solutions.
- Help articulate the technical value and practical business outcomes of proposed solutions.

Delivery & Technical Leadership

- Provide technical leadership across Automation, QE and AI engagements.
- Translate architecture and technical strategy into practical delivery approaches.
- Establish and maintain technical expectations, standards and governance across engagements.
- Support design and code reviews and manage technical risks, dependencies and issues.
- Mentor QE consultants, automation engineers and other technical team members.
- Work with delivery and client teams to address technical challenges, expectations and escalations.
- Capture lessons learned and continuously improve technical approaches and reusable assets.

What we re Looking For

Essential - Technology & Architecture

- 12–15+ years of experience across software engineering, Quality Engineering, test automation or related technology roles.
- Strong experience in technical architecture and solution design, ideally within enterprise environments.
- Deep experience designing and implementing automation across UI, API, integration, data and/or performance.
- Hands-on experience with technologies such as Playwright, Selenium, Tosca or equivalent.
- Practical experience applying AI/GenAI to Quality Engineering and/or testing AI-enabled systems.
- Strong programming capability in one or more of Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, Java or C#.
- Experience building reusable frameworks, accelerators, reference architectures or technical solutions.
- Solid understanding of CI/CD, cloud and DevOps environments.
- Ability to evaluate technology options, make architecture recommendations and design scalable, maintainable solutions.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to engineers, architects and senior stakeholders.

Important - Sales & Pre-Sales

- Experience supporting technical solution design, estimation, proposals, RFPs or tenders.
- Ability to participate in or lead technical discovery workshops, demonstrations and PoCs.
- Ability to translate technical capabilities into practical client solutions and outcomes.
- Experience working with technology vendors or alliance partners.
- Strong client-facing and stakeholder engagement skills.

Deep commercial or sales ownership experience is desirable but not essential. Important - Delivery & Leadership

- Experience providing technical leadership across client engagements or engineering teams.
- Ability to mentor and guide technical team members.
- Experience managing technical risks, dependencies, stakeholders and escalations.
- Comfortable working across both client and internal teams.
- Experience working within either fixed-price or time-and-materials delivery environments.

Formal project or delivery management experience is desirable but not essential.

Desirable

- Experience with agent frameworks, MCP or related emerging AI technologies.
- Knowledge of AI governance and assurance frameworks such as ISO 42001, NIST AI RMF or Australian AI Ethics Principles.
- Relevant technology or partner certifications.
- Experience working across sectors such as public sector, financial services, construction, retail, legal or education.
- Experience developing technology offerings, accelerators or commercial solutions.
- Understanding of solution pricing, margins, commercial models or revenue opportunities.

What Success Looks LikeIn the First 6 Months

- Establish or enhance Automation & AI architecture standards and technical direction.
- Assess relevant technology and partner capabilities.
- Develop a roadmap for reusable Automation and AI solutions.
- Contribute to live client opportunities through technical discovery and solutioning.
- Establish strong technical credibility with clients and internal teams.

Within 12 Months

- Multiple reusable Automation and AI solutions or accelerators established.
- Increased adoption of modern Automation and AI approaches.
- Improved technical capability across the team.
- Consistent technical standards across delivery.
- Strong contribution to qualified opportunities and repeatable solutioning.

Why Join Intellificial?

This is an opportunity to:

- Work at the intersection of Quality Engineering, Automation and AI.
- Own and influence technical architecture rather than simply implementing someone else's design.
- Build reusable solutions that can be applied across enterprise clients.
- Work directly with senior client stakeholders and technology partners.
- Help shape Intellificial's emerging Automation and AI capabilities.
- Work closely with the CEO and a small, senior team.
- Have the opportunity to explore and experiment with emerging technologies and ideas.
- Be part of a growing Australian technology business with a strong focus on innovation and practical client outcomes.

We are starting the search early because we want to take the time to find the right person, rather than simply fill a position.

If you are a strong technologist and architect who enjoys staying close to technology, solving complex engineering problems and exploring what Automation and AI can mean for the future of Quality Engineering, we would like to hear from you.
