The WMS Analyst for Warehouse Management Systems Blue Yonder (WMS) plays a key role in driving the successful transition to a new WMS. The WMS Analyst is responsible for analysing business and operational requirements, designing and developing technical solutions, and supporting the implementation and ongoing enhancement of the Blue Yonder Warehouse Management System (WMS) and associated business applications. The role acts as the primary technical liaison between warehouse operations, business stakeholders, IT teams, and third-party vendors to ensure technology solutions effectively support operational objectives.
The position combines software engineering, systems analysis, solution architecture, software development, system integration, testing, implementation, and application support activities to deliver efficient, scalable and reliable warehouse management solutions.
The role is accountable for designing and maintaining software architectures, ensuring software quality and governance standards are met, and managing software deployment processes across development, test and production environments.
DIMENSIONS AND SCALE
- Provides specialist expertise in Blue Yonder WMS applications, business processes and system integrations.
- Analyses business requirements and translates them into technical specifications and software solutions.
- Designs and implements system enhancements that improve inventory accuracy, warehouse productivity and operational efficiency.
- Supports integration between WMS, ERP, Warehouse Control Systems (WCS), transport systems and external business applications.
- Contributes to the successful delivery of WMS implementation projects, software upgrades and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Provides technical guidance to business users and stakeholders regarding system capabilities and enhancement opportunities.
NEED TO DO
- Develop, modify and maintain application software using appropriate programming languages, frameworks and development tools.
- Test, debug, diagnose and resolve software defects to ensure applications perform to specification.
- Apply software engineering principles, design patterns and coding standards to ensure high-quality, maintainable software solutions.
- Translate functional requirements into technical specifications, application code, system configurations and software enhancements.
- Conduct code reviews and implement development standards to improve software quality, security and maintainability.
- Design, document and maintain application, integration and data architectures supporting Blue Yonder WMS and related enterprise platforms.
- Develop technical solution designs,
architecture diagrams, interface specifications and deployment documentation.
- Evaluate and recommend software architecture approaches that support scalability, maintainability, performance and business growth.
- Optimise application performance through code review and system analysis.
- Investigate and resolve software defects, performance issues and system problems.
- Prepare deployment packages, perform release validation and coordinate production deployments with relevant stakeholders.
- Maintain architecture documentation, technical specifications, deployment procedures and support documentation.
- Promote adherence to software development lifecycle (SDLC) standards and governance frameworks.
- Investigate & resolve any interface issues between the WMS and other internal and external systems (such as WCS, OTC)
- Develop, validate, and execute test scenarios for WMS functionalities, supporting system testing and User Acceptance Testing (UAT) to ensure configurations meet operational requirements.
- Work with our designated 3rd Party Support Partners and members of Hachette AU and Global IT teams to ensure that the WMS systems are fully operational whenever required.
- Conduct gap analyses to identify discrepancies between current warehouse processes and the capabilities of WMS and ERP systems. Design solutions for the WMS software in collaboration with the Systems Integrator.
- Ensure software development and deployment activities comply with organisational cybersecurity, audit and change management requirements.
- Support in enhancing warehouse operations processes such as goods receipt, inventory management, picking, packing, shipping, and returns to align with WMS capabilities and organisational objectives.
- Support data migration efforts by collaborating with technical teams to ensure the accurate transfer and integrity of warehouse-related data during system transitions.
- Support, configure and maintain any new, approved WMS processes as and when required.
- Maintain source control and technical documentation of software solutions
- Contribute to the creation of SOP’s and training materials and conduct knowledge transfer sessions to prepare warehouse and logistics teams for smooth system adoption and operational readiness
- Monitor the Download Viewer and react accordingly when issues arise.
- Ensure that all incidents and requests are logged in Service Manager and effectively communicate with all levels of the business on progress and outcomes of incidents, requests and changes and provide regular updates with clear expectations.
NEED TO KNOW
Skills/Knowledge/Personal Attributes:
- Strong understanding of distribution methodologies, processes, and guidelines.
- Strong experience in systems analysis and software development.
- Strong understanding of software engineering principles, methodologies and best practices.
- Strong knowledge of software architecture, application architecture, integration architecture and data architecture.
- SQL and database development.
- Demonstrated ability to evaluate operational data, identify improvement opportunities, and implement actionable solutions.
- Effective communicator with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders, fostering collaboration and ensuring clarity.

Experience:
- Experience of working on a large WMS Blue Yonder implementation Project and delivery into BAU
- Experience with Blue Yonder Page Builder and custom SQL/MOCA Reporting
- Experience with label development, Download viewer and Event Query
- Proven success in working with and integrating WMS Blue Yonder Platform with ERP systems
- Experience designing and documenting software architectures and technical solution designs.
- Proven experience delivering software deployment and release management activities across multiple environments.
- Experience implementing version control, software governance and change management processes.
- Experience working throughout the full software development lifecycle from requirements analysis through to deployment and production support.
- Solid history of collaboration with IT, operations, and external vendors to deliver end-to-end integrated solutions.
- Experience with warehouse automation, optimising material flows, storage solutions, and space utilisation to enhance productivity.
Proven ability to monitor and improve warehouse KPIs, including inventory accuracy, cycle times, throughput, and space utilisation.
