About the role

Benno's meating place is seeking a skilled and customer-focused Butcher/Cashier to join our team in Torquay, VIC 3228. This is a full-time position that combines traditional butchery expertise with up-to-date retail customer service. In this dual role, you will be at the heart of our business, utilising your butchery skills to prepare premium meat products whilst also managing point-of-sale transactions and delivering exceptional customer experiences.

This position is integral to maintaining the quality standards and reputation that our customers expect from us.

What you'll be doing

- Preparing, cutting and portioning meat products to the highest standards of quality and hygiene

- Operating butchery equipment safely and maintaining all tools in excellent working condition

- Creating specialty cuts and custom orders according to customer specifications and preferences

- Displaying meat products in an attractive and hygienic manner within refrigerated cases

- Processing cash and card transactions accurately at the point-of-sale system

- Providing knowledgeable and friendly customer service, including product recommendations and cooking advice

- Maintaining accurate inventory records and assisting with stock rotation and management

- Ensuring compliance with food safety regulations and maintaining a clean, organised workspace

- Assisting with stock deliveries and maintaining appropriate storage conditions

- Supporting the team during peak trading periods to ensure efficient service delivery

What we're looking for

- Completed qualification or substantial experience as a qualified butcher, or equivalent trade training

- Strong knowledge of different cuts of meat, animal anatomy and butchery techniques

- Proficiency with butchery equipment and ability to maintain high standards of knife skills

- Current food safety and hygiene certification (or willingness to obtain this qualification)

- Experience operating electronic point-of-sale systems and handling cash transactions





- Excellent customer service skills with a friendly and professional demeanour

- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced retail environment, particularly during busy periods

- Strong attention to detail and commitment to food safety and hygiene standards

- Reliable, punctual and capable of working independently as well as part of a team

- Physical fitness and ability to perform manual tasks, including lifting and standing for extended periods
- A genuine passion for quality meat products and customer satisfaction
