Role Description The Carpentry Trainer and Assessor is a full time, on-site role based at Harmony International College in Mount Gravatt, QLD. This role is responsible for planning, delivering, and assessing carpentry training in line with relevant training packages and regulatory requirements.
Day-to-day tasks include preparing lesson plans and learning resources, delivering practical and theoretical carpentry classes, demonstrating safe and effective use of carpentry tools and techniques, and assessing learner competency through practical and written assessments.
The Trainer and Assessor will provide structured feedback,
support learners’ progress, maintain accurate training and assessment records, and contribute to continuous improvement of course materials and teaching practices. Collaboration with colleagues, participation in validation activities, and engagement with industry standards and safety procedures are also key aspects of this position.
Qualifications
- Strong practical carpentry skills, including experience with framing and finish carpentry.
- Proficiency in safe and effective use of hand tools and power tools in training and workshop environments.
- Relevant vocational qualification in Carpentry (e.g., Certificate III in Carpentry) and current industry experience.
- Trainer and Assessor credential (e.g., TAE40122 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or equivalent, or willingness to obtain as required).
- Knowledge of Australian vocational education and training standards, including competency-based assessment and RTO compliance requirements.
- Ability to design and deliver engaging, practical lessons for diverse learner cohorts, including international students.
- Strong communication, mentoring, and classroom management skills, with a focus on safety, inclusiveness, and learner support.
- Competence in using digital tools for learning resources, student management systems, and record keeping.
- Demonstrated commitment to continuous professional development and maintaining current industry and training knowledge.
