Whipper Snapper Distillery
East Perth
Whipper Snapper Distillery is looking for a confident, charismatic and hands-on Cellar Door & Venue Manager to lead our East Perth venue.
Founded in 2014, Whipper Snapper is Perth’s original urban whiskey distillery and the home of award-winning Western Australian grain-to-glass whiskey.
Our venue brings together our cellar door, whiskey tastings and tours, private functions, events and an integrated café serving quality coffee and a easy heat-and-serve food offering.
This is a rare hospitality management role offering regular Monday-to-Friday hours, with the flexibility to structure the position as either full-time or part time for the right person.
About the role
Reporting to the General Manager and working closely with the company directors, you’ll be responsible for steering the day-to-day operation of the venue while empowering your team to deliver.
We need someone who can see the bigger picture, set clear expectations and confidently delegate—not someone who feels they need to do everything themselves.
You’ll create a welcoming, well-run venue while building robust relationships with staff, customers, suppliers and local businesses. You’ll also oversee our e-commerce order fulfilment and help grow our functions, events and broader venue offering.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading the day-to-day operation of the cellar door, café and venue
- Managing, supporting and developing the venue team
- Creating rosters and delegating responsibilities effectively
- Maintaining high standards of customer service, presentation and organisation
- Overseeing whiskey tastings, tours, masterclasses and customer experiences
- Managing private functions and events from enquiry through to delivery
- Building relationships with customers,
suppliers and local businesses
- Overseeing coffee service and our simple heat-and-serve café offering
- Managing stock, ordering, stocktakes and inventory control
- Overseeing e-commerce orders, picking, packing and timely dispatch
- Coordinating shipping, courier collections and delivery enquiries
- Ensuring online and physical stock levels are kept accurate
- Monitoring labour costs, venue expenses and sales performance
- Working with our marketing team to promote functions, events and venue activity
- Ensuring compliance with liquor licensing, RSA, food safety and workplace safety requirements
- Identifying new ways to grow venue visitation, bookings and revenue
About you
You’ll be an engaging and capable leader who knows how to steer the ship while trusting and developing the people around you.
You’ll be comfortable speaking with everyone from staff and regular customers to suppliers, function organisers and new business contacts. You’ll bring energy to the venue, communicate clearly and stay calm when things get busy.
You may already have experience in venue or hospitality management, but we’re equally open to someone with a strong background in events who has the leadership and operational skills to step into the role.
Ideally, you’ll bring:
- Experience in hospitality, venue management, events or a similar customer-focused environment
- Strong leadership and delegation skills
- A confident, approachable and charismatic personality
- Experience managing staff, rosters and daily operations
- Strong event coordination and organisational skills
- Experience with e-commerce orders, shipping or fulfilment systems
- Commercial awareness across labour, stock, margins and sales
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- The ability to manage competing priorities and follow through on commitments
- Food-safety knowledge or willingness to complete the required training
- Must have - A current RSA and Approved Manager qualification
Experience in whiskey, spirits, wine, beer or coffee would be helpful, but it isn’t essential. We can teach you about whiskey; the right leadership style, attitude and ability to work with people are far more important.
What we offer
- A hospitality leadership role with regular Monday-to-Friday hours
- Flexibility to work full-time or part-time
- A salary of $80,000 plus superannuation, pro rata for part-time
- A varied position spanning hospitality, tourism, events, retail, e-commerce and café operations
- Whiskey education and product training
- The opportunity to make a genuine impact within a small, independent WA business
- A supportive team and plenty of scope to bring new ideas to the venue
- Staff benefits and, naturally, a very good whiskey discount
If you’re a confident leader who knows how to bring out the best in a team, build strong relationships and create memorable customer experiences, we’d love to hear from you.
Please apply with your résumé and a brief cover letter telling us why you’d be a great fit for Whipper Snapper Distillery.
