Your job is simple to describe, but exciting to deliver: make sure Burwood’s business community is at the heart of the City’s transformation.
As City Economy Lead, you’ll build strong relationships with local businesses, connect them to opportunities across Council, and turn ideas and insights into practical initiatives that strengthen Burwood’s economy.
The City Economy Lead will:-
- Connect – Be Council’s key link with the local business community, building trusted relationships, understanding business needs and bringing people along on the journey.
- Deliver – Turn ideas and business feedback into practical programs, activations, partnerships, grants and initiatives that create real outcomes.
- Integrate – Connect businesses to opportunities across Council, from placemaking and events to culture, precinct improvements and the night-time economy.
- Shape – Lead and contribute to major city economy initiatives, including Burwood’s Special Entertainment Precinct and Purple Flag program.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in economic development, urban planning, marketing, place management, business or a related discipline.
- A proven ability to build solid relationships with businesses and stakeholders, with the confidence to be visible in the business community, start conversations, understand needs and build support for new initiatives.
- Proven experience delivering economic development, business engagement, placemaking or place-based initiatives, with the ability to turn ideas and feedback into practical programs, pilots, activations and partnerships.
- The ability to connect businesses with opportunities across Council and work collaboratively with internal teams to integrate the business community into projects, events, activations and other city initiatives.
- Experience delivering or contributing to city economy or night-time economy initiatives, with the ability to lead key programs including Burwood’s Special Entertainment Precinct and Purple Flag accreditation.
- Strong research and analytical skills, with experience using data, audits and stakeholder feedback to understand precinct performance and translate insights into practical recommendations.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and partnership-building skills, with confidence working across business, government, industry, community organisations and internal teams.
- Experience identifying and pursuing grants, external funding and partnership opportunities that support economic development outcomes.
- The ability to translate strategy and policy into practical outcomes, manage competing priorities and deliver projects in a collaborative, fast-moving environment.
- Must hold a current NSW Class C Drivers Licence and be willing to undertake a National Police check
