Working as a Commercial Lead / Commercial Manager at Quickway is Exciting
Quickway has been delivering major infrastructure projects across New South Wales for more than 19 years. We specialise in Roads & Bridges, Concrete Structures, Tunnels, Rail, Communications, Electrical, Water and Traffic Management.
Due to continued growth, we are seeking an experienced Commercial Lead / Commercial Manager to join our team. This role will initially be based at our Silverwater Head Office before transitioning to a project-based position as required.
As a key member of our project delivery team, you will provide commercial leadership across major civil infrastructure projects, ensuring strong commercial outcomes while managing risk, contractual obligations and stakeholder relationships.
About the Role
As the Commercial Lead / Commercial Manager, you will be responsible for leading the commercial function across the project lifecycle, from procurement and contract administration through to project completion.
Working closely with Project Managers, delivery teams, subcontractors and clients, you will provide strategic commercial support while driving project performance and protecting the commercial interests of the business.
You will act as the key commercial interface between Quickway,
our clients, subcontractors and supply chain partners, leading complex commercial negotiations, managing contractual risk and driving successful outcomes across all phases of project delivery.
Key responsibilities include
- Leading the commercial management of major civil infrastructure projects.
- Preparing, negotiating and administering subcontract agreements and commercial packages.
- Managing variations, extension of time (EOT) claims, contractual correspondence and dispute resolution.
- Monitoring project budgets, forecasting, cash flow and cost control activities.
- Identifying commercial risks and implementing mitigation strategies.
- Providing commercial guidance and support to project delivery teams.
- Managing subcontractor performance, compliance and commercial outcomes.
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, subcontractors and key stakeholders.
- Preparing commercial reports and project performance updates for senior management.
- Ensuring contractual obligations are effectively managed throughout project delivery.
What You Will Bring
- Tertiary qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Law, Engineering or a related discipline.
- Postgraduate legal qualifications highly regarded.
- Proven experience in a Commercial Manager, Commercial Lead or Senior Contracts role within the civil infrastructure sector.
- Demonstrated experience administering complex construction contracts, including NEC4 & GC21 contracts.
- Exceptional commercial and contractual acumen with a strong understanding of risk allocation and contract management principles.
- Highly developed negotiation and influencing skills, with proven experience negotiating and achieving commercial outcomes both upstream with clients and principals, and downstream with subcontractors, suppliers and consultants.
- Demonstrated experience managing complex variations, EOT claims, contractual disputes and commercial negotiations.
- Strong understanding of commercial governance, contract administration and project risk management.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills with the ability to build credibility and influence outcomes across all levels of a project.
- Advanced knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management and commercial reporting.
- Ability to read and interpret contracts, drawings, specifications and scope documents.
- Proficiency in construction management and ERP systems, preferably Jobpac, together with advanced Microsoft Office skills.
- A positive and proactive approach to safety and the ability to lead and influence a strong safety culture.
