Grant Chugg Plumbing

Launceston

Bring commercial judgement, positive energy and ownership to a respected Tasmanian business.

Grant Chugg Plumbing delivers commercial, maintenance and specialist trade services across Northern Tasmania. As the business continues to grow, we are looking for an experienced plumbing professional with strong analytical ability who can turn drawings, specifications and site information into accurate, commercially sound estimates.

This is a stable, long-term opportunity for a commercially experienced plumber who is ready to build further capability in estimating and project management. You will be trusted to analyse opportunities, organise your workload, negotiate effectively and contribute to profitable project outcomes while working closely with the wider team.

The opportunity

Reporting to the Plumbing Operations Manager, you will prepare accurate and competitive estimates and help set commercial plumbing projects up for successful delivery. The role combines detailed take-offs and estimating work with site visits, client and supplier conversations, commercial negotiation and practical support to project teams.

You will also help grow the commercial pipeline by recognising market opportunities, building relationships and identifying prospective clients whose work aligns with Grant Chugg Plumbing's capability.

What you will be responsible for

- Prepare accurate estimates and tenders for commercial plumbing and drainage projects.

- Review plans, specifications and contract documentation, identifying gaps and seeking clarification early.

- Complete material take-offs, labour costings and supplier and subcontractor comparisons.

- Use take-off and estimating software to develop, test and document accurate project pricing.

- Attend site inspections and contribute confidently in client, builder and supplier meetings.

- Prepare clear, professional quotations and tender submissions.

- Assist with project planning, procurement, job setup,

scheduling and variations.

- Analyse project costs, productivity, risk, margin and profitability, and raise emerging issues promptly.

- Maintain accurate, current estimating and job information in Simpro or the relevant job management system.

- Build trusted working relationships with clients, consultants, suppliers and project teams.

- Identify prospective clients and new project opportunities, and help convert strong relationships into future and repeat business.

The person who will thrive here

You are likely to be someone who brings a constructive outlook, sound judgement and calm confidence. You can hold a useful conversation with people at every level, listen well and explain your analysis clearly. You enjoy being part of a close team, while remaining self-directed and accountable for your own results.

Your professionalism shows in how you prepare, treat people and follow through. When something needs attention, you take ownership, communicate early and work toward a practical solution.

What you will bring

- A plumbing trade qualification and approximately 10 years of plumbing industry experience.

- At least four to five years of practical experience in commercial plumbing environments.

- Experience interpreting construction drawings, specifications and scopes of work.

- Demonstrated experience using take-off and estimating software to prepare commercial estimates and tenders.

- Experience using Simpro or another job management system to maintain accurate estimating and project information.

- Strong analytical capability and financial acumen, including labour and material costing, risk assessment, margin protection and project profitability.

- Commercial confidence and negotiation skills when dealing with clients, builders, suppliers and subcontractors.

- Clear, engaging communication and the ability to build rapport with clients and workmates.

- Proven ability to contribute effectively within a team and share information that supports project delivery.

- Strong time management, organisation and attention to detail across competing tenders and deadlines.

- Business development capability, including identifying prospective clients and suitable current work opportunities.

- Initiative and self-motivation, balanced with the judgement to ask questions or escalate early.

- A respectful, service-minded approach and a genuine willingness to help the team succeed.

- Confidence using Excel and Microsoft Office, with Groundplan experience regarded favourably.

Desirable experience

- Supporting or managing construction projects.

- Certificate IV studies in Plumbing, Building, Project Management or a related field.

- Knowledge of hydraulic services, drainage and commercial construction practices.

What you can expect

- Varied commercial projects and regular contact with clients, sites and delivery teams.

- Supportive leadership, straightforward communication and colleagues who work together.

- Modern systems, professional development and a genuine pathway into greater project responsibility.
