About the Role

Doris Women’s Refuge Inc. is seeking a dedicated and qualified Community Worker to join our team in delivering specialist crisis accommodation, outreach support, and wraparound case management. In this role, you will work directly with women and children experiencing or at risk of homelessness due to domestic and family violence, while supporting community development and advocacy initiatives that promote safety and access to resources across the ACT.

This role is designated for women in accordance with relevant exemptions under anti-discrimination legislation due to the nature of the service and client group. Salary: $79,600 – $80,000 AUD annually (excluding superannuation)

Key Duties and Responsibilities

- Client Assessment & Case Management: Interview women and families in crisis to assess the nature and extent of their difficulties, evaluate immediate housing, safety, and health needs, and implement tailored support, educational, and safety plans.
- Direct Support & Wraparound Services: Provide trauma-informed support and guidance to women, children, and young people to assist them in navigating social, emotional, financial, and housing challenges resulting from family violence.
- Referrals & Inter-Agency Coordination: Liaise with specialised health, legal, housing, employment,



and government welfare agencies to refer clients for targeted assistance and coordinate ongoing multi-agency support.
- Monitoring & Reporting: Track, document, and report on client progress and case management outcomes, ensuring all documentation aligns with organisational and regulatory standards.
- Community Development & Advocacy: Assess broader community resources, promote public awareness of domestic and family violence prevention, and collaborate with local groups, government bodies, and private stakeholders to address systemic issues.
- Funding & Organisational Support: Prepare funding submissions, resource proposals, and detailed compliance reports for government bodies and funding agencies to sustain refuge and outreach programs.

Required Skills, Qualifications, and Experience

- Education: Minimum of an AQF Diploma in Community Services or a closely related field.
- Experience: A minimum of 1 year of full-time relevant work experience (or 2 years of equivalent part time experience) in welfare, crisis housing, or family violence support.
- Demonstrated understanding of trauma-informed care and the dynamics of domestic and family violence, particularly in relation to women, children, culturally diverse populations, and First Nations communities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for report writing, stakeholder liaison, and funding submissions.
- ACT Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) registration and National Police Check required.

Pay: $79,600.00 – $80,000.00 per year
