Western Australia
About Maestro
Maestro connects organisations across Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and Hong Kong with vetted fractional experts, interim leaders, independent consultants and contractors. We match the right talent to the right challenge and look after the details, including onboarding, contracts, payments and ongoing support, so our Maestros can focus on doing what they do best.
We're partnering with one of our clients to find an exceptional Construction Site Supervisor for a 10 to 12 month project in regional Western Australia.
About the client
Our client is a family-owned, Australian made and owned manufacturer with more than 70 years of heritage in designing, engineering and building bulk solids storage and handling facilities. From silos and conveying systems through to processing equipment, they deliver complete, end-to-end solutions for the agricultural, mining and manufacturing sectors, and serve clients across Australia and internationally. Their facilities are designed and built for Australian conditions and backed by a skilled, well-trained workforce.
About the role
We're looking for an experienced Construction Site Supervisor to lead the on-the-ground delivery of a bulk materials handling project in regional Western Australia. Reporting to the Project Manager, you'll be the visible leader on site. You'll coordinate civil, structural and mechanical works from mobilisation through to commissioning, handover and close-out.
This is a hands-on role for someone who puts safety first, takes pride in getting it right the first time, and knows how to keep crews, subcontractors and the client moving in the same direction. You'll set the tone on site every day, solve problems before they become delays, and make sure the finished facility is delivered safely, to spec and ready to perform.
What you'll be doing
Safety leadership and compliance
- Lead a strong, practical safety culture in line with WA WHS legislation, project requirements, approved procedures and client site rules.
- Run and document pre-starts, toolbox meetings, site inductions, risk assessments, SWMS/JSA reviews, permit controls, inspections and safety observations.
- Monitor compliance, step in where conditions or behaviours are unsafe, and escalate incidents, hazards and near misses promptly.
- Make sure everyone on site is inducted, competent and appropriately licensed for their work.
- Manage site housekeeping, access, exclusion zones, amenities,
waste management and the safe use of plant and equipment.
Construction supervision
- Plan, coordinate and supervise civil, structural and mechanical works in line with approved drawings, specifications, program and construction methodology.
- Coordinate subcontractors, trades, deliveries, cranes, access equipment, work areas and interfaces between disciplines.
- Lead daily site coordination, monitor productivity and progress, and keep the Project Manager and stakeholders across priorities, constraints and changes.
- Identify constructability issues, clashes, delays and resource constraints early, and drive practical solutions.
- Make sure only current, approved drawings and work instructions are used on site.
Quality assurance and control
- Implement ITPs, ITRs, hold and witness points, checklists and verification activities.
- Inspect completed work and subcontractor deliverables for conformance with drawings, specifications, tolerances and standards.
- Raise, track and close out non-conformances with the Engineering and Quality teams.
- Maintain traceability of materials, inspections, test results, approvals, red-line mark-ups and certificates.
Commissioning, handover and close-out
- Coordinate readiness for pre-commissioning and commissioning, including completion status, access, isolations, permits, resources and documentation.
- Support dry and wet commissioning, defect rectification and performance verification.
- Coordinate client and subcontractor participation, record results and obtain sign-offs.
- Lead punch-list close-out, O&M; documentation, operator training support and demobilisation.
- Provide practical support during the early operational period and capture lessons learned.
Project controls and communication
- Keep accurate daily reports, site diaries, photographs, labour and equipment records, delivery dockets, permits and registers.
- Provide regular progress updates covering safety, quality, program, cost impacts, risks, variations and upcoming activities.
- Support verification of subcontractor progress, timesheets,
invoices and variations.
- Build strong, skilled relationships with the client, contractors, suppliers and project team.
What you'll bring
Essential
- Demonstrated experience supervising multidisciplinary construction works across civil, structural and mechanical scopes.
- Hands-on experience supporting pre-commissioning, commissioning and project handover.
- A strong safety mindset, with practical experience applying WHS systems, risk controls, SWMS/JSA, permits and site inspections.
- Experience implementing quality requirements, ITPs, non-conformance processes and handover documentation.
- The ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, schedules and technical documents.
- Clear, accurate documentation skills and strong planning, problem-solving and contractor coordination skills.
- A Construction Induction Card (White Card) and a current unrestricted driver licence.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification and relevant supervisor safety training.
- The ability to meet fitness-for-work, site access and licensing requirements.
Desirable
- A trade qualification, Diploma in Building and Construction, engineering-related qualification or equivalent experience.
- Experience in bulk materials handling, industrial facilities, grain storage or agricultural construction.
About you
- You're safety-focused and willing to stop work when conditions aren't right.
- You're accountable, organised and you follow through.
- You're calm and practical under pressure, with sound judgement and a strong eye for detail.
- You're collaborative and respectful, and confident setting and enforcing site expectations.
- You're comfortable working autonomously in a regional location.
The engagement
- Full-time, on-site in regional Western Australia
- 10 to 12 month project-based engagement
