Curtin University is seeking a motivated psychologist to join our Psychological and Counselling Services team as a Counsellor (Registrar).

This is a 0.6 FTE fixed-term opportunity for 24 months, commencing in

November 2026, and provides the opportunity to undertake an Area of Practice Endorsement registrar program in either Clinical or Counselling Psychology while contributing to high-quality psychological support for Curtin students.

Working under the supervision of a Psychology Board of Australia approved supervisor, you will develop your professional practice across a broad range of psychological services while participating in continuing professional development.

About the Role

As a Counsellor (Registrar), you will work as part of Curtin’s Psychological and Counselling Services team at our Bentley campus, providing psychological assessment, individual and group counselling, crisis intervention, consultation and outreach support.

You will join a collaborative multidisciplinary workplace and work alongside experienced psychologists and other professionals supporting the wellbeing, engagement and success of Curtin’s diverse student community.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide psychological assessment and evaluate the cognitive, emotional, intellectual and behavioural functioning of clients.
- Determine appropriate psychological treatment interventions and care planning based on psychological assessment.
- Utilise trauma-informed, neuroaffirming and culturally safe evidence-based interventions.
- Undertake accurate and thorough intake, biopsychosocial and risk assessments, triage, safety planning and case management.
- Monitor client progress through regular evaluation.
- Deliver face-to-face and telehealth treatment interventions.
- Provide individual and group therapy.
- Provide consultation and liaise with academics and relevant stakeholders across Curtin University.
- Facilitate referrals to external agencies where appropriate.
- Contribute to professional knowledge through participation in staff meetings and collaborative practice.
- Contribute to the development and delivery of preventative psychoeducational workshops, webinars and programs for students and staff.
- Participate in research projects where appropriate to inform clinical practice and contribute to the knowledge base relating to counselling and psychological services in higher education.





SELECTION CRITERIA To be successful in this role, you will have:

- A relevant postgraduate qualification from an accredited Master of Psychology program in Clinical or Counselling Psychology.
- General Registration with AHPRA without conditions, with eligibility to register for an Area of Practice Endorsement Registrar program in Clinical or Counselling Psychology.
- Demonstrated knowledge of varied short-to-medium term psychological interventions for clients presenting with a range of concerns.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct intake assessments and apply psychological interventions relevant to the needs of a culturally diverse tertiary student population.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and liaise with a range of professionals.
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, including digital literacy.
- Demonstrated understanding of the needs of university students.
- A commitment to evidence-based, inclusive and culturally safe psychological practice.

Role Requirements

1. You will require current work rights in Australia that match the tenure of the role.
2. This is a part-time (0.6FTE) position, with flexibility in working days which can be discussed during assessment.
3. Successful applicants are subject to a National Police Clearance, and background, integrity and reference checks to Curtin’s satisfaction.
4. You will be required to hold a valid Working with Children Check or have one in the process of renewal.
5. You must hold General Registration with AHPRA without conditions.

Counselling, AccessAbility and Wellbeing Services at Curtin Curtin’s counselling services support students experiencing a broad range of psychological, emotional and psychosocial concerns.

As part of the team, you will collaborate with colleagues across Psychological and Counselling Services, AccessAbility, Student Wellbeing Advisory Services, Multifaith services and The Living Room, as well as academic and professional staff and external health and mental health services.

This 0.6 FTE fixed-term position attracts a package of $109,277 - $117,331 (G07) with salary applied on a pro rata basis plus 17% superannuation.
