Engineers work at physical, firmware, and logical layers using industry-leading tools such as PC-3000, Cellebrite, Magnet Axiom, Oxygen Forensic Detective, and MOBILedit Forensic Ultra, with mechanical work conducted in Class 5 portable clean air boxes. Digital forensics is a core service, with court-ready reports produced under documented chain of custody for legal, corporate, and investigative clients, supported by ACE Lab, ADISA, and IACRB certifications. Wildfire is recognised with an Australian Small Business Champion Award for Customer Service in data recovery and digital forensics, and provides free device submission and assessments across Australia.
Role Description The Data Recovery Engineer is a full-time, on-site role based in Brisbane, QLD. This role involves diagnosing data loss scenarios across diverse storage devices, performing physical, firmware, and logical-level data recovery, and documenting findings in a clear, structured manner.
The engineer will use specialised tools and methodologies to repair drives, recover data from damaged or encrypted media, and support digital forensic workflows as required.
Daily tasks include conducting initial assessments, preparing recovery plans and estimates, executing recovery procedures in clean environments, validating recovered data, and maintaining accurate records to support chain of custody and quality standards. Collaboration with other engineers and communication with non-technical stakeholders are essential to ensure high-quality outcomes and excellent client service.
Qualifications
- Candidates should possess skills in Data Engineering and Data Warehousing to design and manage robust data recovery and storage workflows.
- Candidates should possess skills in Data Modeling and Extract Transform Load (ETL) to structure recovered data and transform it for analysis and reporting.
- Candidates should possess skills in Data Analytics to interpret recovered datasets, identify patterns, and support forensic analysis and client reporting.
- Experience with storage device architectures (HDD, SSD, NVMe, RAID, NAS/SAN) and file systems, as well as familiarity with digital forensics tools and methodologies, is highly beneficial.
- Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and the capacity to work methodically in a laboratory environment, including adherence to chain of custody and documentation standards.
- Relevant tertiary qualification in computer science, information technology, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent qualified experience; industry certifications in data recovery or digital forensics are an advantage.
