About The Role
Swinburne is seeking an exceptional leader to grow and drive a world-class enterprise investment management function. As Director, Enterprise Investment Management, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing and growing Swinburne's diverse portfolio of ventures, investments and equity interests across education, research and innovation.
Working at the intersection of strategy, innovation and commercialisation, you will provide leadership of Swinburne's equity management activities, oversee investment and governance frameworks, and act as a trusted advisor to senior executives, boards and governing bodies. You will work closely with leaders across Innovation & Enterprise, Research, Finance, Legal & Governance, while building strong relationships with investors, venture capital partners, government stakeholders and the broader entrepreneurial ecosystem.
This is a rare opportunity to influence how a globally connected university creates impact through innovation, research commercialisation and venture growth. You will help shape investment strategy, support the development of high-potential ventures, lead governance and portfolio management activities, and contribute to building a globally benchmarked best-practice shareholder and investment management ecosystem.
We are looking for a commercially astute and highly influential leader with significant experience managing investment portfolios, equity transactions and venture governance. You will bring a strong track record of working across complex stakeholder environments, coupled with a passion for innovation, entrepreneurship and creating lasting impact through strategic investment.

About You To be suitable for this role you will need to have experience in the below key accountabilities:
- In-depth experience of successfully managing complex programs involving balancing a portfolio of activities and competing priorities, especially as a shareholder representative.
- Exceptional financial acumen and relationship development credentials, with deep appreciation of the realities of setting up and growing commercial businesses.
- In-depth experience in managing multiple shareholdings in early-stage to late-stage companies, including research-backed ventures, joint ventures, venture funds, and non-profits.
- Proven ability to be persuasive with a diverse range of stakeholders, including strong verbal and written communication skills. Capacity to identify and influence critical stakeholders to gain support for contentious ideas.
- Proven ability to manage financial and operational resources in business environments that demand commercial nous and agility for managing finite resources.
- Exceptional knowledge and in-depth experience in early-stage company and investment governance.
- Experience in financial markets and sound understanding of Australian accounting principles relating to equity.
Qualifications
- A bachelor’s level qualification, or an equivalent qualified qualification, in a relevant discipline, preferably in finance.
