The role

We have an opportunity for an experienced senior leader to join IBAC as the Director - Surveillance on a full-time fixed term basis.

Reporting to the Executive Director – Operations, the role oversees the use, deployment and management of specialist technical, electronic and physical surveillance resources within a high-risk environment to support investigations into alleged corruption and misconduct.

Duties include:

- Leading the effective delivery of technical and physical surveillance functions and building capability to support highly sensitive operations.




- Setting the strategic direction and priorities of the Surveillance unit.
- Overseeing complex and sensitive operations, including resources, budgets, risk and operational outcomes.
- Providing expert strategic and risk management advice to senior executives on operational and technical matters.
- Leading and developing multidisciplinary teams and creating a positive, high-performing setting.
- Ensuring operations comply with relevant legislative requirements and industry standards.
- Building strong relationships with investigative teams, law enforcement agencies and other key stakeholders.

About you

We are looking for candidates with the below experience and capabilities:

- Significant experience in covert methodology, typically gained through law enforcement and the application of technical and/or physical surveillance.
- Extensive knowledge of contemporary surveillance methodologies, including technical and physical surveillance, undercover operations and technical surveillance countermeasures.




- Extensive experience or knowledge of sophisticated physical and electronic surveillance equipment and methodology.
- Demonstrated senior leadership experience within complex, sensitive and high-risk operational environments.
- A tertiary qualification or significant experience in a relevant discipline.

Due to the requirement to attain a Negative Vetting 1 security clearance candidates must be an Australian citizen at the time of application. Pre-employment screening The preferred candidate will be required to undergo pre-employment screening as part of the recruitment process. This includes psychometric testing, validation of misconduct declarations, a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check (NCCHC), and other relevant checks in accordance with Victorian public sector requirements and IBAC policy. Psychometric testing is completed online and assesses cognitive ability, personality, work values, and safety behaviours.
