About the role
Disability Innovation Services Pty Ltd is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Disability Support Worker to join our team on a casual basis. This role is based in Geelong, VIC, and offers flexibility for individuals seeking variable hours of work. As a Disability Support Worker, you will play a vital role in empowering individuals with disabilities to live fulfilling, independent lives.
You will provide essential support services that enable our clients to participate meaningfully in their communities, pursue their goals, and maintain their dignity and autonomy. This position is fundamental to our mission of fostering inclusion and promoting quality of life for people with disabilities.
Key responsibilities
- Provide personalised support to individuals with disabilities, assisting with daily living activities including personal care, hygiene, meal preparation, and household tasks
- Facilitate community participation by accompanying clients to social activities, appointments, recreational activities, and community events
- Support clients in developing and maintaining life skills, including money management, social interactions, and self-advocacy
- Maintain detailed and accurate records of client support provided, noting any changes in client needs or wellbeing
- Communicate effectively with clients, families, and other support team members to ensure coordinated and person-centred care
- Uphold person-centred principles, respecting client preferences, choices, and autonomy in all interactions
- Respond sensitively and professionally to challenging behaviours or situations, maintaining client safety and wellbeing at all times
- Assist clients in building confidence and pursuing their individual goals and aspirations
- Maintain a safe and hygienic environment and follow all health and safety protocols
- Demonstrate commitment to equal opportunities and celebrate the diversity of the individuals you support
What we're looking for
- Previous experience working in disability support, aged care, community services, or a related field
- A genuine passion for supporting people with disabilities and a commitment to person-centred care
- Robust communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with clients and colleagues
- Patience, empathy, and emotional resilience when working with individuals facing complex challenges
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, taking initiative while following guidelines and directions
- Physical capability to assist clients with mobility and personal care tasks where required
- Flexibility and reliability, with the ability to adapt to the variable nature of casual work
- Current Working with Children Check (or willingness to obtain one)
- Current First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain one)
- Reliable transport and a valid Australian driving licence (desirable)
- National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) experience is highly valued but not essential
