Pulse Of Mail
Australia
Pulse of Mail is looking for an experienced Ecommerce Email Copywriter that freelances to join our growing team.
We’re looking for someone who genuinely loves copywriting.
Someone who gets excited about finding a better hook, restructuring an email to make the message hit harder, understanding why customers buy, and continually improving their craft.
Experience matters, but your curiosity, creativity and willingness to keep learning matter just as much.
What You'll Be Doing
Our Email Strategists develop the overarching strategy and campaign topics for each client.
Your job is to turn those ideas into emails people actually want to read, and that convert.
You'll be responsible for taking an email topic or brief and determining the best way to structure and communicate it.
That could mean finding the right hook, building curiosity, educating the reader, overcoming objections, telling a story, or finding a creative angle we hadn't initially considered.
You'll primarily write:
- Educational emails
- Connection-focused emails
- Community-focused emails
- Promotional/sales emails
- SMS copy
For graphic emails, you'll need to be comfortable structuring your copy clearly in table/section formats so our designers know exactly how the email should flow. For plain-text emails, you'll need to be able to write naturally and conversationally in a way that connects with the subscriber.
Like a friend would write to another friend while pivoting to the product as the solution a seamless way that doesn't feel overly promotional.
What We're Looking For
Ideally, you have at least 1–2 years of copywriting experience, particularly within ecommerce or email marketing.
But we're more interested in finding someone who is genuinely passionate about becoming an exceptional copywriter.
You should
- Understand direct-response and conversion-focused copywriting principles
- Know how to turn a topic into a compelling, well-structured email
- Be able to develop strong hooks, headlines and CTAs
- Understand that positive copy isn't just about clever wording, it's about understanding the customer
- Be comfortable researching unfamiliar products, audiences and industries
- Be able to adapt your writing to completely different brand voices
- Have strong written English and attention to detail
- Be comfortable receiving feedback and improving your work
- Be reliable with deadlines and communicate clearly
- Be able to work relatively quickly when required
- Have a genuine interest in continually learning about copywriting, psychology and ecommerce
Creativity Is Important to Us
We have SOPs and frameworks that explain how we approach email copy at Pulse of Mail, and we'll expect you to learn and follow them.
But we don't want a copywriter who simply fills in templates.
Our SOPs provide the foundation. Within them, we want you to think creatively, challenge ideas where appropriate and find better ways to communicate the message.
If you think there's a stronger hook, angle or structure than the original brief, we want you to say so.
Working Across Different Brands
One of the biggest skills we're looking for is the ability to change voices between clients.
One email might need to feel warm, educational and reassuring.
The next might need to be bold, energetic and performance-driven.
The next could be a personal email written in the voice of a founder.
We don't want every client's emails to sound like they were written by the same person.
Workload & Turnaround
We'll start you with one client so we can learn how we work together and give you time to become familiar with our processes.
If it's a good fit, we'd ideally like you to gradually take ownership of copywriting for approximately 5–8 clients.
Most work is planned 1–2 weeks in advance, but because we work with ecommerce brands, there will occasionally be last-minute campaigns, promotions or changes.
We're therefore looking for someone who can work efficiently and is reasonably responsive when something time-sensitive comes up.
AI & Copywriting
We're happy for you to use AI as a tool for research, brainstorming or improving your workflow.
What we're not looking for is someone who relies entirely on AI for copywriting and to create emails.
The thinking, creativity, brand understanding and final quality of the copy should come from you.
Pay
A$35–$50/hour, depending on experience and ability.
We're looking for someone we can build a long-term working relationship with rather than someone who simply completes individual assignments.
As you demonstrate that you understand our clients, processes and standards, we'd like you to take ownership of more accounts. This role does have the potential to turn into a full time gig aswell if you choose to.
How to Apply
Please send us
1. A short introduction about yourself and your copywriting experience.
2. 2–3 examples of ecommerce emails you've personally written. (not designs)
3. A brief explanation of the thinking behind one of those emails — the audience, goal, angle and why you structured it the way you did.
4. Your current availability and typical weekly capacity.
5. Your hourly rate.
And finally
Tell us about one copywriter, book, course or resource that has had the biggest influence on the way you write and why.
We're particularly interested in meeting people who treat copywriting as a craft they're continually trying to master.
