YARDMAN
Full-Time | Naval Base, WA | Monday–Friday | Local Role
Statewide Industrial Maintenance Pty Ltd is seeking an experienced, highly organised and self-motivated Yardman to join our team at our Naval Base facility.
This is a key support role within our operations, responsible for ensuring our yard, workshop materials, equipment and freight are maintained and coordinated to a high standard.
We are looking for someone who takes genuine pride in keeping a yard clean, organised and under control. You will need to be proactive, self-sufficient and capable of identifying what needs to be done without waiting to be told.
If you are the type of person who likes everything to have its place, keeps on top of materials and equipment, and can't walk past something that's out of order without fixing it, this role will suit you.
THE ROLE
As our Yardman, you will take ownership of the day-to-day organisation and operation of our yard and associated laydown areas.
You will work closely with our workshop, project and management teams to ensure materials, tooling and equipment are received, stored, prepared and dispatched efficiently.
This is not a role where you will be micromanaged. We are looking for someone who can take ownership of the yard, establish good systems and maintain them.
Your responsibilities will include
- Coordinating the movement of materials, equipment and freight throughout the yard and workshop.
- Receiving incoming deliveries and checking materials against purchase orders and delivery documentation.
- Daily loading and unloading of deliveries (steel etc)
- Inspecting deliveries for damage, shortages or discrepancies and reporting issues promptly to the workshop supervisor
- Loading and unloading trucks using forklifts and other appropriate equipment.
- Organising and maintaining steel, piping, fittings, consumables, tooling and project materials.
- Preparing, staging and dispatching materials and equipment for workshop and site activities.
- Ensuring project materials are clearly identified, separated and stored appropriately.
- Maintaining accurate records of materials and equipment entering and leaving the yard.
- Monitoring consumables and commonly used materials and advising when replenishment is required.
- Maintaining designated storage locations and ensuring materials and equipment are returned to the correct areas.
- Coordinating incoming and outgoing freight and assisting with transport arrangements where required.
- Ensuring equipment being dispatched to site is appropriately prepared and accounted for.
- Maintaining a high standard of housekeeping and presentation throughout the yard.
- Keeping access ways, laydown areas, loading zones and storage areas clear, safe and organised.
- Operating forklifts for the movement of steel, equipment, pallets and project materials.
- Assisting with crane and rigging activities within the limits of your qualifications and High Risk Work Licences.
- Conducting routine checks of forklifts and other yard equipment.
- Identifying damaged equipment, tooling or materials and reporting maintenance requirements.
- Assisting with general workshop and operational activities when required.
- Following all company safety, environmental and quality procedures.
- Taking an active role in maintaining a safe, professional and efficient workplace.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR The right person for this role will be extremely organised and self-sufficient.
You should be someone who naturally notices when something is out of place and takes the initiative to correct it.
We are looking for someone who:
- Have a can do/will do attitude
- Takes pride in maintaining an exceptionally clean and organised yard.
- Is proactive and does not need constant supervision or direction.
- Can prioritise tasks and manage their own workload.
- Has strong attention to detail.
- Understands the importance of accurate material and equipment control.
- Is comfortable working in a fast-paced fabrication and industrial environment.
- Has experience handling steel, piping, mechanical equipment and/or industrial materials.
- Communicates effectively with workshop personnel, supervisors, suppliers, transport companies and project teams.
- Understands that good housekeeping and material control are critical parts of workplace safety.
- Is physically capable and willing to undertake hands-on duties.
- Takes ownership and accountability for their area of responsibility.
- Has a strong safety-first attitude.
