About Marsden Families Program
Marsden Families Program has been providing outreach and therapeutic support to children and families involved with the child protection system for more than 20 years.
Our Family Intervention Service works alongside families where there are identified child protection concerns, providing practical, parenting, educational and therapeutic support within the family home and community.
We are seeking a Family Support Practitioner to join our experienced and supportive team on a full-time basis.
About the Role The Family Support Practitioner works directly with children, parents and families to strengthen family functioning, increase protective factors and support safe and positive relationships between parents and children.
The role provides versatile, home and community-based intervention to families involved with the child protection system. Our work aims to support children to remain safely within their family wherever possible and to assist families working towards safe reunification where children have entered out-of-home care.
Working from a strengths-based and family-focused framework, you will provide practical and therapeutic support tailored to the needs of each family.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing planned, practical and therapeutic interventions to children and families with complex needs.
- Supporting parents to develop parenting capacity, confidence and practical skills.
- Working with families to address identified child protection concerns and strengthen safety and protective factors.
- Undertaking home and community-based visits in a flexible and responsive manner.
- Developing and maintaining effective working relationships with families, Child Safety and other relevant professionals and services.
- Maintaining professional case documentation and contributing to assessment, planning and review processes.
- Working both independently and collaboratively as part of a supportive multidisciplinary team.
About You
We are looking for a practitioner who can build respectful working relationships with families while maintaining clear skilled boundaries and a strong focus on child safety.
You will have
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline such as Social Work, Psychology, Behavioural Science or equivalent.
- Current professional registration or membership where required for your discipline.
- Knowledge of Queensland child protection legislation, or the willingness and ability to develop this knowledge.
- Experience in assessing, planning and delivering interventions with families experiencing complex needs.
- Knowledge of trauma and attachment theories and their relationship to child abuse and neglect, or a willingness to further develop this knowledge.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
- The ability to work effectively with families from a range of backgrounds and circumstances.
- The ability to establish effective partnerships with key stakeholders to support positive outcomes for children and families.
- The ability to work autonomously while also contributing effectively within a team.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills.
- A current Queensland Driver Licence.
- A current Working with Children Check (Blue Card).
Relevant experience within child protection, family intervention or an associated child and family service will be highly regarded.
