As a Finance Business Partner, you will work closely with managers and stakeholders across the City of Stonnington to provide insightful financial analysis, support informed decision-making, and enhance financial accountability. Your expertise will help shape strategic initiatives, improve service delivery, and contribute to long term goals of the organisation. You will support Council's annual budgeting processes, monthly forecast reviews and long-term financial planning activities. You will work collaboratively with management to monitor financial performance, investigate variances, deliver actionable insights and ensure resources are allocated effectively to achieve organisational priorities and community outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with budget owners to understand service drivers, interpret complex financial information and provide modelling and advice that supports sound decisions.
- Develop robust working relationships with stakeholders to enable informed decision making, improve customer experience and strengthen financial accountability and discipline.
- Support service areas through proactive engagement, problem solving and the delivery of practical financial solutions aligned to organisational objectives.
- Work in collaboration with and assist the team, manager and other key stakeholders to achieve business unit goals, work requests, demands and Council priorities
- Provide advice/training to the organisation regarding the interpretation and analysis of internal financial reports.
- Assist business units with a broad range of financial activities,
including budgeting, forecasting, phasing, acquittals, financial analysis, reporting, reconciliations and journal adjustments.
- Coordinate the development and monitoring of the operating and capital budget in accordance with the budget guidelines.
- Coordinate the forecast review process, attend meetings with Management and prepare monthly and quarterly Council reports for the Executive Team and budget managers identifying any material change from budget, risks and opportunities.
Join us in this full-time permanent role, offering a market-competitive salary range of $113,974 - $126,589 plus 12% superannuation and a monthly accrued day off.
Desired Skills And Experience
What you’ll need to succeed:
- A tertiary qualification in accounting is required, with CPA/ CA membership.
- Demonstrated experience in Finance Business Partnering functions in a local government or large complex organisation, including being a trusted advisor providing analysis and assessment of complex financial information.
- Demonstrated ability to explain complex and strategic financial concepts and provide advice including to stakeholders that do not possess a financial background.
- Responsible for leading key projects, programs, or services with a high level of autonomy, ensuring alignment with organisational objectives and community needs.
- Solid excel and financial system operating skills, (TechnologyOne system experience preferred but not essential).
- Successful applicant must be willing to work a minimum of three days per week from the office.
- Applicant must be willing to complete a satisfactory police check and obtain a current Working with Children Check (WWC).
