Financial Controller
Own the numbers. Lead the team. Help shape what MVSI does next. MVSI is a small but rapidly growing SaaS and RegTech business helping financial services companies manage onboarding, verification, compliance and risk. Our customers operate across payments, lending and other regulated markets, and our team works across several countries.
We’re looking for a Financial Controller who can keep a firm grip on the detail while seeing the bigger picture. You’ll lead our finance function, oversee HR operations and work directly with the CEO on the financial decisions that matter as we grow.
This is a hands-on role. You’ll be as comfortable reviewing a balance sheet reconciliation as you are challenging a forecast, improving a process or explaining what the numbers mean for the business. Cashflow forecasting is your thing!
What you’ll own
- Lead, coach and develop the finance team, with clear standards and reliable delivery.
- Own month-end close, balance sheet reconciliations, management accounts and annual statutory reporting.
- Produce useful budgets, forecasts, cash flow reporting and analysis of performance against plan.
- Oversee accounts payable, customer invoicing, bank reconciliations and revenue reporting.
- Manage payroll, superannuation, workers compensation and tax obligations, including GST, PAYG and payroll tax.
- Maintain sound financial controls across our Australian and international entities.
- Oversee HR administration and work with the relevant teams and advisers on people-related processes.
- Manage corporate insurance and relationships with external accountants, auditors and advisers.
- Find unnecessary costs, inefficient processes and opportunities to make finance work better.
- Give the CEO and business leaders clear, practical advice they can act on.
What you’ll bring
Deep, hands-on Xero expertise is essential. You’ll need to know the system well enough to improve how we use it, not just produce reports from it.
You’ll also bring
- At least five years’ experience in a senior finance role and three years leading people.
- Strong accounting, reporting, payroll and Australian tax experience.
- The confidence to manage competing deadlines without losing accuracy or control.
- Commercial judgment: you can explain what a result means and what should happen next.
- A willingness to get into the detail, solve problems and improve processes yourself.
- Transparent communication and the confidence to challenge assumptions constructively.
- Sound judgment and discretion with sensitive financial and employee information.
We use Employment Hero HR and Payroll, Syft and Dext alongside Xero. Experience with these tools, multi-entity reporting or an international SaaS business would be valuable.
Why MVSI?
You’ll have real ownership in a business that is growing and changing. The work is varied, the decisions are consequential, and you’ll be close enough to the business to see the impact of what you do. We care about our people and our customers, and we value people who take responsibility, speak plainly and make things better. We offer flexible working arrangements, opportunities to grow, and the small things that make work more enjoyable, including birthdays off.
